Homicide and non-fatal shooting
investigations have seen a notable decrease. In 2024, ACPD investigated eight
cases, whereas only three investigations have been reported so far in 2025—a
62.5% reduction. Notably, there have been no homicides in the first quarter of
2025, versus 6 in the first quarter of 2024. However, the department has
investigated three non-fatal shooting incidents in 2025, compared to two in
2024.
In the first quarter of
2025, ACPD has responded to 24,733 calls for service, averaging approximately
274 calls per day. This represents a decrease from the 26,523 calls for service
in the first quarter of 2024.
Arrests have remained
consistent, with 1,161 individuals charged in the first quarter of 2024
compared to 1,159 in 2025. Notably, there has been an increase in juvenile
arrests, with 67 juveniles charged in 2025 compared to 36 in 2024.
The City of Atlantic City
continues to invest in technology and public safety initiatives. The Citywide
Surveillance Camera Project, which is about two-thirds complete, is expected to
further enhance crime investigations, motor vehicle crash analysis, and officer
safety by providing real-time data to officers responding to calls for service.
New surveillance cameras are coming online weekly, strengthening ACPD’s ability
to monitor critical areas.
Additionally, the Casino
Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) has approved a $3 million grant to
fund additional patrols in the Tourism District. Starting April 1, 2025, and
running through March 31, 2026, this funding will allow ACPD to increase police
presence along the Boardwalk, Pacific Avenue, and Atlantic Avenue. Five new
utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) will also be deployed, enabling officers to
better navigate the beach and Boardwalk areas. These new patrols will complement
existing officer presence via bicycles and foot patrols.
“I am excited about the progress we’ve made in the first
quarter of 2025 and the future improvements ahead for both the Atlantic City
Police Department and our community,” said Chief James A. Sarkos. “Our officers
are dedicated to swiftly responding to calls and providing effective solutions
for residents and visitors. With the ongoing hard work, commitment and
dedication of our officers, our partnerships with the city administration and
other law enforcement agencies, the integration of advanced technologies and
the support of the community, I am confident that we will continue to reduce
crime and make a meaningful impact on public safety in Atlantic City.”
"There's this exaggerated narrative that Atlantic City
is not clean and safe, but the facts and data tell a different story as the
Atlantic City Police Department keeps showing why they are the best police
department in the world," said City of Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small,
Sr. "Whether it be through added manpower, new equipment and technology or
promotions, the Small administration will continue to support our Law
Enforcement in every way possible to make sure this downward trend in crime
continues."
