On February 24, 2025, at 12:30 a.m., officers of the Brooklyn Park Police Department were dispatched to a shooting at 5540 69th Ave N, in The Brooks Gardens Townhomes. Upon arrival, officers immediately located the suspect attempting to flee.

The suspect, Hakim Watkins, a 29-year-old male from St. Louis Park, MN, was arrested and later booked into the Hennepin County Jail. During the arrest, the suspect assaulted a police officer, causing minor injuries.

Investigators determined that the victim and suspect were family members. An argument between the two escalated, leading the suspect to brandish a firearm and shoot the victim in the hand. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.

The investigation remains ongoing as officers continue to collect information on the case.
