Shooting Investigation Leads to Two Arrests
For Immediate Release:
January 28, 2025
The Atlantic City Police Department arrested a man for
attempted murder after shooting his child’s mother.
On January 28, 2025, at 2:48 AM, patrol officers responded to
the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for a report of a woman
who was dropped off at the emergency department suffering from a gunshot
wound. The individual that dropped off
the victim left immediately after. The
victim, 32, of Atlantic City, was treated for serious injuries.
Surveillance Center personnel began to search for the vehicle
and quickly directed officers to the first block of south Iowa Avenue. Officers were able to locate the vehicle
which had blood on it. Through the
investigation, officers were led to an apartment inside a building on the
block. Edwin Jones, three women, two
toddlers, and an infant were removed from the residence that contained evidence
of a crime scene. Violent Crimes Unit
detectives later executed court authorized search warrants on the apartment and
the vehicle.
It was determined that Jones shot the victim and directed
another woman to drive her to the medical center. Katie Harpel attempted to assist in cleaning of
the residence with cleaning supplies. A
handgun and additional evidence were recovered outside of the apartment
building.
Jones and Harpel were each arrested. The Division of Child Protection &
Permanency responded to assist with placement for the three children.
