On Thursday October 31st, 2024 at approximately 8:25am,  Brooklyn Park Police and Brooklyn Park Fire were dispatched to an accident at Green Haven Dr. and County Road 81. The reporting party, a witness, advised dispatch that a vehicle had flipped over. Upon arrival, officers and firefighters observed that a lone vehicle had exited County Road 81, flipped over, and was submerged underwater. Brooklyn Park firefighters worked relentlessly to extract the driver, however, the vehicle was submerged in a creek with higher and faster than normal water flow due to the rain. Tow trucks were needed to pull the vehicle out in order to reach the driver. Sadly, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by North Memorial Paramedics. Hennepin County Crime Lab, Hennepin County Water Patrol, and the MN State Patrol assisted Brooklyn Park PD with the accident investigation. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the name and cause of death of the driver.
