Found Vehicle Linked to Missing Person Investigation

For Immediate Release:  October 4, 2024

The Atlantic City Police Department is investigating the recovery of a vehicle that has been missing since November 2016 along with the driver.

Dashand Stokelin was reported missing by his family on November 23, 2016.  Stokelin, 36, of Atlantic City, was last seen in the early morning in the 200 block of North Carolina Avenue.  He was driving a 2016 blue Subaru Legacy.

This week, a boat operator was navigating through Clam Thorofare when he noticed what appeared to be a vehicle on the floor of the water through his sonar.  The operator alerted law enforcement and a diving operation was commenced the next day by the Brigantine Fire Department Dive Team.  Divers were able to locate a vehicle and determined that it had been there for an extended period of time.

On October 2, the New Jersey State Police and Iaconelli Construction removed the vehicle from the water.  The vehicle has been identified as the one being operated by Stokelin on the morning of his disappearance.  Detectives have conducted a search of the vehicle which did not yield any human remains.

Anyone with information about this incident or the disappearance of Stokelin is urged to contact the Atlantic City Police Department Criminal Investigations Section at 609-347-5766 or submit a text anonymously to tip411 (847411).  Begin the text with ACPD.
