One Arrested in Ongoing Shooting Investigation

The Atlantic City Police Department is investigating a
shooting incident that left two wounded and one of those arrested.
On September 17, 2024 at 7:26 PM, patrol officers responded
to the 4000 block of Ventnor Avenue for a ShotSpotter alert and reports of
gunfire. Off-duty Officer Marquez Jones
was nearby, heard the gunfire, and quickly arrived. He located Kevin Hollingsworth and a woman
suffering from gunshot wounds.
Hollingsworth and the female victim, 37, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, were
transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, to be
treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A crime scene with evidence of gunfire was located on both
sides of Ventnor Avenue. During the
investigation, detectives learned that Hollingsworth became involved in a
verbal altercation with several individuals.
Hollingsworth and the individuals ultimately exchanged gunfire. The other group fled the area. After being shot, Hollingsworth entered a nearby
business and discarded a handgun that was recovered.
The active investigation is being led by the Violent Crimes
Unit.
ARRESTED: Kevin
Hollingsworth, 38, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
CHARGES: Aggravated
assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an
unlawful purpose.
Hollingsworth is currently receiving medical treatment. These charges are merely an
accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged
defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
