For Immediate Release:
August 22, 2024
The Atlantic City Police Department arrested a woman with
multiple warrants after spitting on a merchant and threatening to kill him.
On August 20, 2024, at 11:39 AM, patrol officers responded to
a business in the 2500 block of the Boardwalk for a report of a dispute
involving a firearm. Officers arrived to
speak with the merchant who stated that they encountered Fatima Gadson blocking
the entranceway while attempting to open the store. Gadson and the merchant became involved in a
verbal altercation when Gadson spat on the merchant. The merchant called 911 and while doing so,
Gadson attempted to flee when the merchant grabbed her shirt to hold her for
officers. Gadson lifted up her shirt
showing the merchant the handle of a firearm and threatened to kill the
merchant. The merchant let go of the
shirt and Gadson fled on a bicycle.
Officers were able to obtain a description of Gadson. Members of the department’s Surveillance
Center were able to obtain video surveillance of Gadson fleeing on Texas Avenue. A short time later, Officers Rebecca Seabrook
and George Mancuso located Gadson’s bike in the 2500 block of Pacific
Avenue. They then found Gadson about to
enter a convenience store with a firearm in her hand with an orange tip. It was not known what type of firearm Gadson
was holding. The officers encountered
Gadson ordering her to drop the weapon.
Gadson refused and continued into the store. The officers followed Gadson into the store
continuing to give orders to drop the weapon and safeguard any patrons
inside. After more verbal commands,
Gadson dropped the firearm which was determined to be an imitation firearm. Gadson
was arrested and found to have 15 active warrants for her arrest.
ARRESTED: Fatima
Gadson, 33, of Philadelphia, PA.
CHARGES: Unlawful
possession of a weapon, simple assault, terrorist threats, and obstruction of
justice.
Gadson was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice
Facility. These charges are merely an
accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged
defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
