On August 9, 2024, at approximately 7:19 a.m., officers of the Kokomo Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Washington Street at Monroe Street in Kokomo, Indiana for a serious bodily injury motor vehicle accident.  

        From preliminary investigation, 24-year-old Joshua Grimes, from Kokomo, Indiana, was driving a silver 2005 Chrysler Town and Country eastbound on Monroe Street and stopped at Washington Street.  Grimes then continued eastbound across Washington Street when a motorcyclist was southbound. 

        The motorcyclist struck the van on the left rear driver’s side and the operator was ejected from the motorcycle.  The driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet and suffered life threatening injuries from the collision.  The driver was transported to a local hospital and then subsequently flown by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital for more extensive treatment of injuries.  The identity of the driver is being withheld pending family notification.
