The Oakland Housing Authority Police Department is sharing a safety advisory published by the Oakland Police Department. 

OPD has advised of a group of residential robbers identifying themselves as police officers. In two recent residential robberies, the suspects were dressed in plain clothes and verbally identified themselves as police officers, according to OPD. We have had no reports of such incidents at OHA properties.

Some cases have involved one to four suspects breaking into residences and then either searching or demanding items from victims, OPD wrote in the advisory. When the victims have questioned the suspects' identities, they reply that they are "police" or "OPD" while entering the residence. 

While OPD is actively investigating and has increased its presence in the areas of the robberies, we felt it important to share this advisory with our residents. 

If you have any doubt about the validity of an officer, do not hesitate to contact 911 or the Oakland Housing Authority Police Department at 510-535-3100. 

Some Safety Tips

• Police Officers will knock and announce their presence.
• OHAPD Police officers will wear clothing and insignias clearly identifying them as police officers.
• Don't resist
• Trust your instincts, and if you are in doubt, call 911.
