Information Leads to Arrest of Two, Handgun Recovered

The Atlantic City Police Department arrested two men and
recovered a firearm acting on information provided to a detective.
On June 28, 2024, Detective Eric Evans received information
in regards to a man armed with a handgun walking in the area of 2800 block of
Pacific Avenue. The information also
included a very detailed description of the suspect. Detective Michael Oldroyd located the man,
Matthew Murphy, walking on Atlantic Avenue with Nathaniel Rodgers. While awaiting back-up, Murphy and Rodgers
entered a ride share vehicle. With
assistance from Detectives Troy Grams and James Barrett, the vehicle was
stopped.
While speaking with the passengers, a handgun was observed
inside the vehicle and both men were found to have active warrants for their
arrest. Murphy was found in possession
of seven grams of methamphetamine and additional ammunition.
ARRESTED: Matthew
Murphy, 40, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
CHARGES: Unlawful
possession of a weapon, possession of CDS, and certain person not to possess a
weapon.
Murphy is currently admitted to the AtlantiCare Regional
Medical Center for a pre-arrest condition.
ARRESTED: Nathaniel
Rodgers, 47, of Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Contempt.
Rodgers was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. These charges are merely an
accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged
defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
