On Sunday, June 23rd, 2024, at 3:52 am, officers of the Brooklyn Park Police Department were dispatched to the 8700 block of Queens Gardens N for the report of a baby not breathing. Responding officers located a 7-month-old child in critical condition. The child was transported to a local hospital, where the child later died. Officers remained on the scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the child. At 4:41 am, officers on the scene encountered an adult male with a gun. One officer discharged his service weapon, striking the male. Officers immediately rendered emergency medical care to the injured male. The male was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive. A firearm was recovered from the scene. This incident is under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office. The entire incident was captured on body-worn camera video.
