Scheduled June 2024 Red Line Closures Impacting Cambridge: What to Know
Parts of the MBTA Red Line are scheduled to be closed the
first and last weekends of June (June 1-2 and June 28-30).
Riders will take shuttle buses instead of trains on
parts of the Red Line on the first and last weekends of June while the MBTA repairs tracks and makes
improvements.
o All
weekend: Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2
§ There
will be no Red Line trains between Alewife (Cambridge) – Harvard
(Cambridge)
§ Riders
will take FREE shuttle buses instead of trains at all Red Line stations.
§ Shuttle
buses will stop at: Alewife (Cambridge), Davis (Somerville), Porter
(Cambridge), Harvard (Cambridge)
§ The
MBTA Bus Route 77 will be free.
§ The
Commuter Rail will also be free between Porter (Cambridge) and North Station
(Boston).
o All
weekend: Saturday, June 29 and Sunday June 30
§ There
will be no Red Line trains between Alewife (Cambridge) – Harvard
(Cambridge)
§ Riders
will take FREE shuttle buses instead of trains at all Red Line stations.
§ Shuttle
buses will stop at: Alewife (Cambridge), Davis (Somerville), Porter
(Cambridge), Harvard (Cambridge)
§ The
MBTA Bus Route 77 will be free.
§ The

o Friday,
June 28 at 8:45 pm. Through Sunday, June 30:
§ Trains
leaving Boston will stop at Charles/MGH (Boston) and the next stop will be
Central Square (Cambridge).

The Kendall/MIT Outbound (Boston to Cambridge) Station will
be closed.
§ Getting
to Kendall/MIT from Boston:
1.
Take the Outbound train to Central Square
2.
Take the Inbound train (return towards Boston) to Kendall
MIT. The transfer at Central Square will be free.
§ Going Outbound from Kendall/MIT:
1.
Take the Inbound train to Charles/MGH
2.
Take the Outbound train to Central, Harvard,
Porter, Davis, or Alewife. The transfer at Charles/MGH will be free.
The MBTA Red Line in Central Square will
remain open June 1-2 and June 28-30.

2024 Red Line Closures
The MBTA Red Line is also expected to be
closed Saturday,
July 13 to Sunday, July 28. Riders will take shuttle buses instead of trains on
parts of the Red Line for about two weeks while the
MBTA repairs tracks and makes improvements.

with resources and information on upcoming closures in Cambridge.
