Car Thief Arrested Twice in 8 Hours By Same Officer

UPDATED ON MAY 16, 2024- THE WOMAN ARRESTED IN THE FIRST INCIDENT PROVIDED FALSE INFORMATION TO THE ARRESTING OFFICERS. SHE USED HER SISTER'S BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION. CAITLIN RAINEY HAS NOW BEEN CHARGED WITH VARIOUS CRIMES AND IS WANTED.

The Atlantic City Police Department arrested a man twice within several hours in possession of a stolen vehicle. 

On May 12, 2024, at 6:57 PM, Officer John Bell located an unoccupied stolen minivan in the first block of Tennessee Avenue.  The minivan had been reported stolen earlier in the day.  With assistance from the Surveillance Center, two occupants had exited the vehicle shortly before the arrival of officers.  The occupants, Adam Ross and Caitlin Rainey, were taken into custody in the area.  Both arrested individuals were released on a summons with a future court date.  

Later in the evening on May 13, at 2:12 AM, Officer Bell located another stolen vehicle in the first block of south Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard.  After conducting a motor vehicle stop, Ross was found to be the driver and was arrested again.  The vehicle had been stolen several minutes earlier after the owner was outside of his vehicle engaged in an argument.  Ross entered the vehicle and sped off.    

 

ARRESTED:  Adam Ross, 33, of Absecon, NJ.

CHARGES:  Theft (two counts) and receiving stolen property (two counts).

Ross was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

 

ARRESTED:  Caitlin Rainey, 33, Northfield, NJ.

CHARGES:  Receiving stolen property, joyriding, and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

Rainey was released on a summons with a future court date.

These charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt.  In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
