MEDIA RELEASE

March 29, 2024

On February 26, 2024, at approximately 7:27 PM, District Three officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 5400 block of Kirby Avenue. Responding officers located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound inside of the location. Cincinnati Fire Department personnel responded and attempted life saving measures, but the victim died at the scene. The victim has been identified as Sylvester Lawson III, 27 years of age.

                                                                           UPDATE

On March 29, 2024, the Cincinnati Police Department’s Homicide Unit, with the assistance of the Fugitive Apprehension Squad, arrested Mr. Dontaevion Smith, 32 years of age, on an open Murder warrant for death of Mr. Lawson. 

The investigation by the Cincinnati Police Department’s Homicide Unit is ongoing. Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (513) 352-3542.
