Shooting Investigation

On October 15, 2023, at approximately 8:44p.m., a homeowner at 618 East Jackson Street, called 911 to report that he shot an unknown male that had broken into his home.  Kokomo Police responded to the residence. Police located a male in the front door area of the home with a gunshot wound.  Officers rendered medical aid to the male until emergency medical personnel arrived.  

The homeowner told police that he was asleep in his residence when he was awakened by the male in his living room. The homeowner attempted to get the male to leave his home when the male physically attacked the homeowner.  The homeowner discharged his weapon at the male to stop the continued physical altercation. 

The male who entered the home, died as a result of his injuries.  The deceased was identified as 51-year-old Scott Elliot Jones of Kokomo.  The homeowner was treated for minor abrasions and bruising from the altercation.  

The Howard County Coroner's Office is assisting with the investigation and an autopsy is being scheduled.  The case will be forwarded to the Howard County Prosecutor's Office for a review of all findings at the completion of the investigation.
