Valley MUD NO. 2 NOTICE

Drought Contingency Plan Stage 2 Responses—MODERATE Water Shortage Conditions

A severe drought is gripping all of south Texas. The combined reservoir levels for the Rio Grande Valley are down to 23% of capacity with Falcon Lake holding just 11% of its capacity.  Several months ago, the Valley Municipal Utility District No. 2, which provides water to Rancho Viejo, enacted Stage 2 Drought Restrictions. For homes with addresses ending in an even number, lawn irrigation is restricted to Sundays and Thursdays. For homes with addresses ending in an odd number, lawn irrigation is restricted to Saturdays and Wednesdays.  Irrigation with automatic sprinkler systems or hose end sprinkler systems is prohibited between the hours of 10:00am and 7:00 pm.

Exceptions are only made for drip irrigation systems, or hand held hose watering. In addition, activities such as washing cars, driveways, or roofs are prohibited at this time, unless the water is brought in from another location.

The District is struggling to maintain the Resaca del Rancho Viejo in a full condition.  It is very important that the local residents reduce their water usage to the maximum extent possible. In addition to watering restrictions, the Drought Contingency Plan also calls for surcharges on water bills.  These surcharges increase with the amount of water used.  This is done to encourage residents to use less water.  The extra revenue generated by these surcharges will be used to purchase additional water for District usage.  We apologize for any inconvenience that these restrictions may cause.
