Don't fall victim to suspicious online contacts in real life - meet in a safe location or outside a Yonkers Police precinct to complete your transaction.

The Yonkers Police Department is investigating several incidents where people were victimized when meeting up to buy or sell items advertised online, including PlayStation 5 game consoles. We are asking community members to be aware of the potential risk of these types of transactions and to utilize safe public spaces or a Yonkers Police Safe Exchange Zone to complete the transaction.

The City of Yonkers and Yonkers Police Department designated Safe Exchange Zones at each of the four City Police Precincts. These locations, identified by conspicuous Safe Exchange Zone signs, are located on or adjacent to Police Department property and are under 24-hour video surveillance. As person to person internet purchases and transactions become prevalent in modern society, the City of Yonkers and Yonkers Police Department wants to ensure the safety of our residents and communities. By designating Police facilities as an elective meetup location to complete these transactions, the risk to consumers of becoming the victim of fraud or crimes against their person is minimized in the presence of law enforcement. Residents are encouraged to utilize these locations when meeting an internet contact in person, especially for the first time.
