Bicyclist in Crash Arrested with Handgun

On June 21, 2021, a bicyclist was arrested and charged with
weapons offenses after being involved in a crash.
At 10:49 pm, Officers William Luengas-Gonzalez and Melvin
Murray III responded to the intersection of Connecticut and Grammercy Avenues
in reference to a crash involving a car and a bicyclist. A witness had alerted police that the
bicyclist, Dennis Rodgers, dropped a handgun from a satchel when he fell to the
ground. Rodgers retrieved the gun and
put it back in the bag.
The officers located the satchel and discovered the handgun
inside. Rodgers was arrested without
incident. He was transported to the
AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for treatment of non-life
threatening injuries sustained in the crash.
The handgun had been reported stolen out of the state of North Carolina.
The driver of the vehicle, 53, of Kendall Park, NJ, did not
sustain any injuries.
The crash investigation is being conducted by Officer Fitzroy
Simpson.
ARRESTED: Dennis
Rodgers, 22, of Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Unlawful possession
of a weapon and receiving stolen property.
Rodgers was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Charges are mere accusations, and the accused are considered innocent until
proven guilty.
