For Immediate Release:
November 17, 2020
On November 15, 2020, a man was arrested after burglarizing
and damaging two vehicles and kicking the arresting officer several times.
At 7:46 pm, Officers Robert Reynolds and Wen You responded to
the first block of north Bellevue Avenue for a report of a criminal mischief to
a vehicle. The officers arrived to speak
with the 911 caller who reported that her husband was chasing a man who smashed
out their car’s window and stole items inside.
The officers located the husband on Atlantic Avenue who
pointed out Shawn Shurig as the individual responsible. Other officers were on a similar call on the
first block of north Florida Avenue in reference to a car burglary with a smashed
window.
Officer Reynolds informed Shurig that he was under arrest for
both burglaries and Shurig began to yell and refused to comply. The officers continued to speak and reason
with Shurig before he was ultimately arrested.
As Shurig was walked to a waiting patrol car, Officer You began to
conduct a search when Shurig began to pull away and then kicked Officer
Reynolds several times before an unsuccessful attempt to spit on him. After sitting down in the backseat of the
patrol car, Shurig again kicked Officer Reynolds several times.
A search of Shurig was completed and evidence from the car
burglaries was located in his possession.
ARRESTED: Shawn
Shurig, 26, of Pleasantville, NJ.
CHARGES: Two counts
each of burglary, criminal mischief, theft, and single counts of resisting arrest
and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
Shurig was released on a summons with a future court date.
