Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Route 30
For Immediate Release:
September 25, 2020
On September 25, 2020 at 4:27 am, patrol officers responded to
the westbound side of Route 30 in reference to a possible crash. A 911 caller reported that she was driving
westbound on Route 30 when she believes that she struck something, but was unsure
of what due to the extremely foggy conditions.
The caller, 53, of Galloway, NJ, continued to her residence before
calling 911.
Officer Joseph Bereheiko of the Accident Investigations
Section began to check Route 30 for evidence of a crash. More than an hour after the initial call, Officer
Bereheiko located a single shoe near mile marker 54. He then located the body of a man in the marsh.
The man was pronounced deceased on scene by medical
personnel. His identity is not yet known
at this time.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by Officer
Bereheiko with assistance from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the
crash, however, toxicology results are pending.
