Man Wanted for July Assault with Shotgun Arrested with Handgun

August 21, 2020
On August 20, 2020, the suspect in a July assault with a
shotgun was arrested after attempting to assault an officer while in possession
of a handgun.
On July 13, patrol officers responded to the first block of
north Michigan Avenue for a report of a man assaulted. The victim, 43, of Atlantic City, was struck
in the head several times by a man with a shotgun. The victim was transported to the AtlantiCare
Regional Medical Center, City Division for treatment.
Detective Ryan Kov began an investigation into the assault
and located surveillance video of the vehicle the suspect was driving leaving
the area.
On August 20, Sergeant Garry Stowe saw the suspect vehicle at
New York and Pacific Avenues. He
conducted a motor vehicle stop and began to speak with the driver, David Spinks. Spinks exited the vehicle and attempted to
assault Sergeant Stowe. Spinks began to
resist arrest and after other officers arrived to assist was taken into
custody. Sergeant Stowe located a loaded
handgun in Spinks’ pocket.
ARRESTED: David
Spinks, 61 of Northfield, NJ.
CHARGES: Unlawful
possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain
person not to possess a weapon, aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a
police officer, resisting arrest, and tampering with evidence.
Spinks was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
