Syracuse Police Arrest 16-Year-Old with Gun

On Friday, February 14th, 2020, at approximately 4:47 p.m., an anonymous tip was called into Police that advised a male was in possession of a handgun at the corner of 2100 E. Fayette St.  Officer Kenneth Kimpel responded to the area and located a suspect matching the description provided.  As the Officer was speaking to the suspect, he noticed what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband.  The Officer then went to detain the suspect, at which time he tried to run away from the Officer.  After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended by Officer Kimpel.

The suspect was identified as a 16-year-old juvenile male and was found to have a loaded .40 caliber handgun concealed in his waistband.  The juvenile was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and resisting arrest.  The juvenile was arraigned and was subsequently remanded to Hillbrook Detention Center.
