Vineland Police Department Criminal Division Press Release
On 11/04/19 at 7:28pm Officers from the Vineland Police
Department responded to the area of the 700 block of South Sixth Street for a
stabbing. Upon arrival to the scene, officers located a subject laying in the
middle of the roadway.
Upon arrival, they made contact with the victim who is identified
as a 27-year-old Hispanic male subject, who had lacerations to the side of his
neck and a laceration to the palm of his right hand. The victim was taken to
Cooper Hospital for medical treatment where he was listed in stable condition.
Investigation
revealed that the victim was involved in a verbal altercation with the suspect
who was later identified as Wilfredo Navarro (27 y/o H/M from the 500 block of
S. 8th St). This verbal altercation turned violent and Navarro
stabbed the victim several times with a knife before fleeing the scene.
Members of the Vineland Police Department Detective Bureau
responded to the scene and the case was assigned to Detective Nelson Gonzalez.
Within a few hours of the initial incident, Navarro was located at his
residence and taken into custody without incident and charged with the
following:
Criminal Attempt Murder. Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful
Purpose and Unlawful Possession of Weapon.
Navarro was later transported to the Cumberland County
Department of Corrections.
