Three Arrested Including Man with Handgun as Necklace

On October 9, 2019, three were arrested including a man that assaulted
an officer and found with a handgun around his neck.
At 4:18 pm, Detectives Nick Berardis and Alberto Valles of
the Special Investigations Section approached a vehicle in the unit south block
of Tennessee Avenue in reference to a narcotic investigation. Detective Valles approached the driver, Anthony
Gallipoli, who was in the process of smoking crack cocaine from a pipe. Gallipoli was removed from the vehicle and
arrested.
Detective Berardis observed the back passenger, Khalil Tate,
stuffing a package in his pocket. Tate
was removed from the vehicle and the bag, which contained cocaine, was removed
from his pocket. After being told he was
under arrest, Tate tried to run away. Detective
Berardis was able to grab hold of Tate as he fled and was struck in the face by
a Tate elbow. With assistance from
Detective Valles, Tate was taken to the ground where he again elbowed Detective
Berardis in the face causing a laceration.
Tate resisted arrest and continued to refuse to release his left hand from
underneath his body. After a prolonged
struggle, he was taken into custody. While
searching Tate after his arrest, he was found to have a loaded handgun tied
around his neck with a shoelace. The
shoelace went through the gun’s trigger guard and hung like a necklace. Tate was also found in possession of 54
ecstasy pills and two bags of heroin.
While the detectives were arresting Tate, a second passenger,
Stephanie Edwards, attempting to flee from the area. She was quickly apprehended by responding
officers and found to have several active warrants for her arrest.
ARRESTED: Khalil Tate,
a 29-year-old man from Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Unlawful
possession of a weapon, certain person not to possess a weapon, aggravated
assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, three counts of possession of a
controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession with intent to distribute CDS,
possession with intent to distribute CDS within 500 feet of a public zone, and
possession of weapon while in commission of a CDS offense.
ARRESTED: Stephanie
Edwards, a 33-year-old woman from Pleasantville, NJ.
CHARGES: Multiple
active warrants.
Tate and Edwards were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice
Facility.
ARRESTED: Anthony
Gallipoli, a 38-year-old man from Barnegat, NJ.
CHARGES: Possession of
CDS.
Gallipoli was released on a summons with a future court date.
