Shooting Investigation Update- Two Arrested
For
Immediate Release: August 13, 2019
An
investigation by detectives of the Violent Crimes Unit resulted in the arrest
of two men, including one that was shot.
On June 1,
2019 at 3:51 am, patrol officers responded to the area of Sovereign and
Fairmount Avenues for a ShotSpotter alert. Arriving officers located
evidence of gunfire. Approximately one hour later, Anthony Allen Jr walked
into the Shore Medical Center in Somers Point suffering from a gunshot wound.
During the
investigation, detectives learned that Allen and another man, Damond Whealton,
became involved in a dispute inside Proud Mary’s bar. Allen and Whealton both left the bar and exchanged
gunfire.
Criminal
charges were filed against the two men and warrants issued for their
arrest. On August 8, Allen was arrested
by detectives of the Special Investigations Section. On August 11, Whealton was arrested by
Officer Sean McGettigan.
ARRESTED: Anthony Allen Jr., a 31-year old man from
Pleasantville, NJ.
CHARGES: Aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a
weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain person not
to possess a weapon.
ARRESTED: Damond Whealton, a 25-year old man from
Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a
weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain person not
to possess a weapon.
Both men
were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
