Man Arrested with Two Pounds of Synthetic Cannabinoids or K2

For Immediate Release:  July 20, 2019

On July 19, 2019, a motor vehicle stop led to the arrest of a man in possession of almost two pounds of synthetic cannabinoids.

At 12:54 am, Officer Ivaylo Ivanov observed a vehicle fail to stop at the red traffic signal at Tennessee and Baltic Avenues.  Officer Ivanov stopped the vehicle in the 200 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard.  Upon speaking with the driver, Henry Paredes, Officer Ivanov could smell marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.  Paredes initially refused to provide his driver’s license or information for the vehicle.  After several minutes, Paredes provided a fake name.  A computer check revealed the information to be false.  The vehicle also did not belong to Paredes.

Paredes was asked to exit the vehicle but refused.  He began to roll his window up when Officer Ivanov opened his car door.  Paredes exited the vehicle after several more requests.  Paredes’s identification was located in his pocket and he was found to have an active warrant.  In the vehicle, Officer Ivanov located almost two pounds of synthetic cannabinoid, sandwich bags and small zip-lock bags.  Paredes was arrested.

Synthetic cannabinoids, or most commonly referred to as K2 or spice, can cause the user to act confused, delusional, anxious, or hallucinate.

ARRESTED:  Henry Paredes, a 33 year old man from Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Possession of a synthetic cannabinoid, possession with intent to distribute, hinder apprehension, and several traffic summons.

Paredes was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
