For Immediate Release:  July 10, 2019

On July 9, 2019, two juvenile males were arrested and two guns recovered following an investigation into gunshots being fired. 

At 4:50 pm, officers responded to the unit south block of Elberon Avenue for a report of gunshots.  While responding, Detectives Will Herrerias and Jefferson Rivera were alerted to possible suspects fleeing in the area of the unit north block of Boston Avenue.  As officers approached, two males were detained and one male fled with officers chasing him.  The male, 17- years old, jumped over a fence, removed a handgun from his waistband and discarded it into high grass before being apprehended.  K9 Officer James Miltenberger and his K9 partner Mongo arrived on scene to search for the weapon.  Mongo was able to quickly locate the loaded handgun.

Officers responding to Elberon Avenue located evidence of gunfire that included shell casings.  The caliber of shell casings differed from that of the handgun recovered.  An investigation led to the search of a residence which resulted in the recovery of a rifle by Lieutenant Daniel Corcoran.  A 14- year old male was arrested.  

ARRESTED:  A 17- year old male from Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Unlawful possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, and obstruction of justice

ARRESTED:  A 14- year old male from Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Both males were remanded to the Harborfields Detention Facility.
