Incident: Aggravated Assault on Police, Eluding, Weapons Offenses

Location: N. 3rd St. and Park Ave

Arrestee(s): Sharay R. Palmer – 22 y/o B/M – 400 Block of Almond St

Synopsis:

            On 5/25/2019, officers from the Vineland Police Department Patrol Division conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2017 Dodge Charger with a temporary Pennsylvania registration. Sgt. J. Selby approached the vehicle where he came into contact with Sharay R. Palmer of the 400 block of Almond Rd. During the course of the motor vehicle stop, additional patrol officers including Ptl. A. Rodriguez and K9 Officer J. Ramos responded to the scene.

            While Sgt. Selby was issuing motor vehicle summonses, Ptl. Rodriguez observed Palmer attempting to conceal something within the vehicle. Sgt. Selby asked Palmer to step out of the vehicle so that a K9 sniff of the vehicle could be conducted. During this time Palmer became uncooperative refusing multiple order to step out of the car. He then put the car into gear and fled the area almost striking Officer Ramos and his K9 partner “Rexo”. No vehicle pursuit was initiated due to the fact that Palmer was already positively identified by Sgt. J. Selby. As a result of this incident, Palmer was charged with the following offenses:

Eluding (2°) - 2C:29-2b   

Criminal Attempt Aggravated Assault during eluding (2°) 2C:12-1b(5)a

Threat to kill Law Enforcement Animal (K-9) (4°)  2C:29-3.1

Possession Weapon unlawful purpose (3°) 2C:39-4D        

Unlawful Possession of a weapon (4°) 2C:39-5D

Obstruction of the Administration of Law 2C:29-1a

                On 6/5/2019, members of the Vineland Police Department Anti-Crime Unit were conducting a surveillance detail in an attempt to locate Palmer. As a result of this detail, Palmer was located and was a passenger in a motor vehicle that was stopped in the area of West Ave. and Park Ave. Following this motor vehicle stop, Palmer was charged with an additional count of Obstruction of the Administration of Law. He was processed and later transported to the Cumberland County Jail pending a Detention Hearing.
