Man Arrested After Threatening to Shoot People on North Hamilton Street
On Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at approximately 10:13 a.m., City of Poughkeepsie Public Safety Dispatchers received a call reporting a man threatening to shoot people with a gun at 204 North Hamilton St.
City of Poughkeepsie Patrol Officers and Detectives responded and interviewed a number of people related to the call. This address is comprised of several rooms rented by several different people. Police confirmed that the suspect was the only occupant of the address at the time of their arrival.
Members of the Hostage Negotiation Team were a part of the initial response and immediately made attempts to contact the suspect. The immediate area was secured by City of Poughkeepsie Police and the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. City of Poughkeepsie Police Emergency Services members were notified and responded to the scene.
After some time, Hostage Negotiation Team members made contact with the suspect and arranged for his safe exit from the building. At approximately 1:25 p.m., the suspect exited the building and was taken in to custody without further incident. He was transported to City of Poughkeepsie Police Headquarters for processing.
The suspect was identified as Lorenzo Jackson Jr., a 55-year-old residing at 204 North Hamilton St. Jackson has a lengthy arrest record comprised for 44 arrests. Currently, there are several outstanding warrants for Jackson, including an arrest warrant for Criminal Contempt 1st degree, a Class C felony; bench warrants for Criminal Contempt 1st and 2nd degree; as well as vehicle and traffic violations. He also has outstanding felony warrants out of the Town of Poughkeepsie.
