*** PRESS RELEASE *** Juvenile murder suspect Jamir Thompson surrenders to Yonkers Police
Yonkers, NY – Jamir THOMPSON, wanted for the alleged murder of
18-year-old Marilyn Cotto Montanez, turned himself in early this morning to
police officers at the Yonkers Police 3rd Precinct on Riverdale Avenue. Shortly
before 1 AM, the 15-year-old THOMPSON who was in the company of his mother and
an attorney presented himself to officers who placed him into custody without
incident; he was then taken to the Yonkers Police Youth Services Division on
North Broadway where he was processed on the warrant for his arrest. Detectives
then transferred THOMPSON to the Westchester County Court in White Plains where
he is currently being arraigned before a Superior Court judge in the Youth Part
of Criminal Court.
“Today’s surrender of Jamir Thompson is the direct result of the
hard work and dedication of the Yonkers Police Department,” stated Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. “Their
tireless efforts in tracking this individual gave him no other choice than to
turn himself in for his heinous crime against a young woman with a bright
future. Great job by our Yonkers’ finest. I look forward to seeing justice
served for the sake of the family and friends of Marilyn and our Yonkers
community.”
Police Commissioner Charles
Gardner stated, “Jamir Thompson has been taken into custody and will now have
to answer for his despicable actions. I applaud the dedication of our Police
Officers and Detectives and their on-going, relentless pursuit of justice for
the family of Marilyn Cotto Montanez.”
THOMPSON was booked on a single charge of Murder 2, a Class A-I Violent
Felony in the New York State Penal Law. It is expected that THOMPSON will be
remanded to a juvenile detention facility subsequent to his arraignment as a
juvenile offender. The case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County
District Attorney’s Office. Additional information may be released as it
becomes available.
