For Immediate Release:  February 13, 2019

On February 13, 2019, information to our anonymous text service, tip411, led to the arrest of two men and the recovery of a handgun and drugs.

At 12:35 pm, Detectives Will Herrerias and Jefferson Rivera of the Special Investigations Section were conducting surveillance in the 2300 block of Arctic Avenue.  The detectives were acting on a tip sent in by a concerned citizen in reference to drug distribution on the block. 

During their surveillance, they observed a drug transaction take place between Jorge Herrera and Jose Diaz.  After the transaction, Diaz left in a vehicle.  He was stopped, taken into custody, and found to be in possession of marijuana.

The detectives returned to locate Herrera.  As they arrived, Herrera was leaving a residence.  He was placed in custody without incident.  He was found in possession of a handgun loaded with hollow-point ammunition, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.  A later search of his residence turned up additional marijuana.  In total, detectives recovered 210 grams of marijuana, a scale and baggies used to package the marijuana, and $503 in cash. 

ARRESTED:  Jorge Herrera, an 18 year old male from Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS within 1,000 feet of a school zone, possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of hollow-point ammunition, and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

Herrera was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

ARRESTED:  Jose Diaz, a 38 year old male from Atlantic City.

CHARGES:  Possession of CDS.

Diaz was released on a summons with a future court date.
