UPDATE- Pedestrian Killed on Route 322 Identified
UPDATE TO RELEASE
The pedestrian killed in a motor vehicle collision on
February 10, 2019, has been identified as Marco Jesus Gutierrez, a 31 year old
man from Tampa, FL. Mr. Gutierrez’s next
of kin has been notified.
ORIGINAL RELEASE
On February 10, 2019 at 6:58 pm, patrol officers responded to
the westbound lanes of Route 322 near the Shell Gas Station for the report of a
motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian, whose
name will not be released at this time pending notification to his next of kin,
was walking in the left lane when he was struck by a Honda sedan. The
driver, Juan Restrepo, 38 years old from Hyattsville, MD, immediately stopped
his vehicle after sustaining heavy damage. This caused a second collision
with two additional vehicles. A Ford van driven by Joel Scott, 40 years
old from Ventnor, crashed into the rear of Restrepo, and an Infiniti sedan
driven by Raina Roche, 20 years old from Margate, crashed into the rear of
Scott.
The pedestrian suffered traumatic injuries and was pronounced
deceased on scene. Restrepo was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional
Medical Center, City Division, to be treated for minor injuries. The other
drivers were evaluated on scene and released.
The Atlantic City Fire Department and Atlantic County
Prosecutor’s Office assisted on scene. The roadway was closed for
approximately two hours.
The collision is being investigated by Officer Eric Knuttel.
