Two Multi-car Crashes Force Road Closures During Commute
Burns Road
The
evening commute on January 23, 2019 was extremely busy for the Pelham Police
and Fire Departments. They responded to two separate multi-car crashes that
forced road closures during the evening commute.
The
first crash was reported at 4:34 pm at the intersection of Burns Road and Quail
Run Lane. There were three cars involved in the crash. The first vehicle was a
2018 U Haul transit van operated by Samuel Ogden, age 28, from Brookline, NH.
Ogden was driving off Quail Run Lane, traveling across Burns Road and attempting
to drive onto Savannah Lane when he caused the crash and flipped his van on its
side. Ogden failed to yield the right of way to the vehicles traveling on Burns
Road causing a major crash at the intersection involving two other vehicles.
The
second vehicle involved was a 2015 black GMC Denali pickup truck operated by
Daniel Luce, age 66, Pelham, NH. Luce was traveling eastbound on Burns Road
when Ogden hit the Denali forcing it to strike the third vehicle involved. The third
vehicle was a 2018 blue Mazda 3 operated by Richard Sarault, age 64, Pelham, NH.
Sarault was traveling westbound on Burns Road when his vehicle was struck by Ogden’s
van and Luce’s Denali.
All
three vehicles were badly damaged and towed from the scene. Luce sustained non-life
threatening injuries and he was transported to Southern New Hampshire Regional
Medical Center by Pelham Fire. Sarault was also injured in the crash and he
declined medical treatment from Pelham Fire Ambulance. Ogden declined medical
attention and did not report any injuries.
Ogden
was issued a summons for Reckless Operation. He is scheduled to appear in the
10th Circuit District Court – Salem on March 4th at 8:00am.
Burns
Road was closed for approximately 50 minutes until the vehicles could be removed
from the scene.
Sherburne Road
Shortly
after, at approximately 5:30 pm, both
Police and Fire responded to Sherburne Road for a multi-car crash. There were
three vehicles also involved in that crash. Due to the damage and injury, Sherburne
Road was closed while emergency personnel took care of the operators.
Susan
Martin, age 61, Pelham, NH was traveling eastbound on Sherburne Road, operating
a 2011 Honda Fit. Martin failed to slow and stop in traffic causing her vehicle
to rear end a 2018 Toyota Rav4 operated by Cynthia Lepore. Lepore had also been
traveling eastbound, coming to a stop in traffic when she was struck from behind
forcing her vehicle to strike the 2005 Chevy Silverado pickup truck that was
stopped in front of her. The truck was operated by William Craig, age 72,
Pelham, NH.
Martin
suffered a serious injury to her right ankle, she was transported to Lowell
General Hospital, Lowell, MA. Lepore sustained non-life threatening injuries
and was also transported to Lowell General Hospital for medical attention. Craig
declined medical attention on scene and drove himself to the hospital.
Martin
and Lepore’s vehicles sustained significant damage. They had to physically be pulled
a part by two separate tow trucks. Craig’s truck sustained minor damage to the
rear bumper, and he was able to drive it from the scene.
Sherburne
Road was closed for approximately 30 minutes. Hudson Police assisted in closing
Sherburne Road down at Dracut Road, and Sherburne and Mammoth Road was closed
detouring the motoring public into Dracut, MA and back around into Hudson, NH.
