*** PRESS RELEASE *** Yonkers Police investigate fatality at fire scene

Yonkers, NY – On Tuesday, December 4th, 2018, at approximately 8:51 AM, members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to 131 Park Avenue to assist the Yonkers Fire Department on a report of a structure fire at a one story building. Thereat officers conducted traffic and crowd control during fire operations. One victim, a 69 year old female, was removed to a local area hospital where she was subsequently pronounced deceased.

 

Detectives from the Yonkers Police Fire Investigation Unit, Major Case Unit, and Crime Scene Unit in collaboration with the Yonkers Fire Department Fire & Arson Investigation Unit are actively investigating this incident, interviewing witnesses, canvassing the scene, and processing forensic evidence. No determination as to the cause of the fire has been established at this time and is currently under investigation.

 

The victim is identified as Ida MARTINEZ, a resident of 131 Park Avenue. The City of Yonkers and Yonkers Police Department offers its sincere condolences to the family of the victim. No other injuries are being reported at this time, and information will be released as it becomes available. ###
