* Fatal Injury Traffic Crash Investigation *

On Monday, May 21, 2018, at 0807 hours, the Cincinnati Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to 3048 Boudinot Avenue to investigate a fatal injury traffic crash.

Mr. Zachary Hughes, M/26, was operating a 2011 Dodge Dakota pick-up truck north on Boudinot Avenue.  Mr. Hughes crossed the double yellow line, went off the roadway and struck two parked vehicles in a multi-family apartment building parking lot, went airborne, struck a tree and came to final rest on a second floor deck of the apartment building.  The first parked vehicle struck was a 1994 Ford Bronco; the second parked vehicle struck was a 2004 Hyundai Sonata.

Mr. Hughes sustained serious injuries and was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Mr. Hughes is listed in fair condition. Mr. Hughes’ passenger, Mr. Kevin Hughes, M/47 sustained critical injuries as a result of the crash.  He was transported by the Cincinnati Fire Department to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Excessive speed is a factor in this crash.

Impairment is unknown at this time.

Neither Mr. Zachary Hughes nor Mr. Kevin Hughes were wearing their seatbelts.  

The Traffic Unit is continuing the investigation and any witnesses to this crash are asked to contact the Cincinnati Police Department’s Traffic Unit at 513-352-2514.
