PRESS RELEASE

Salem Rolling Domestic Assault Ends in Pelham DUI Crash

On Friday, March 17, 2017 at approximately 12:50 am the Salem Police Department reported their officers were searching for a car that crashed on Bridge St. in Pelham.  Salem Police received a call from a female passenger in the car.  She stated she was fighting with the driver in Salem and he assaulted her. She said he was driving drunk and refused to let her out of the car before they crashed in Pelham.

Salem and Pelham officers found the crashed 2011 Honda Civic in the woods on Bridge St. at the intersection of Balcom Rd. a short time later.  The Civic’s front end was heavily damaged from striking small trees and both airbags deployed.  The car was towed due to the damage.  Neither the driver nor the passenger was injured in the crash.

Pelham Officer Kasiske and Salem Officer Cummings spoke with the driver, 28 year old Michael Mammola Jr. of Methuen, MA.  Ofc. Kasiske observed indicators of impairment as they discussed the single vehicle crash on the straight portion of Bridge St.  He requested Field Sobriety Tests from Michael as a result.  Mammola was arrested for Driving Under the Influence at the conclusion of the roadside investigation.  Officers interviewed the victim and determined that a significant assault took place in Salem.

Michael submitted to a breath test at the Pelham Police Department.  He was charged with Aggravated DUI and will be arraigned at Salem District Court on March 31st.  Michael was bailed and transferred to the custody of the Salem Police Department to face assault charges in their town.

Any questions can be directed to Sgt. Glen Chase or Lt. Anne Perriello at (603) 635-2411.
