Press Release

Possession of a firearm and possession of controlled dangerous substances

 

Location:  334 Axtell Ave. (Asselta Acres)

 

Date/Time:  2/2/2017 at 6:39 AM

 

Accused:  Illya Tyshchenko (W/M/18) of 334 Axtell Ave., James Polishchuk (W/M/18) of 5429 Ascher Rd., Troy A. Bell (B/M/19) of 28 Howard St., and Erick J. Colop-Torres (H/M/20) of 21 Oak St. in Bridgeton.

 

Disposition: On the above date and time, The Vineland Police Department was dispatched to the Asselta Acres Apartment Complex for a reported suspicious vehicle in the parking lot containing four occupants.  Officer Dave Cavagnaro was the first officer to arrive on scene.  While speaking with the driver of the vehicle (James Polishchuk), he could smell the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.  He also witnessed the front seat passenger (Illya Tyshchenko) attempt to hide a box of handgun ammunition.  Officer Cavagnaro then quickly called for backup and other officers arrived on scene.  During this time, Bell attempted to jump out of a rear passenger side window of the vehicle and flee the scene, but he was detained.  The other occupants were then removed from the vehicle and Officer Cavagnaro observed a loaded .38 caliber handgun sitting on the front passenger’s side floor.  All occupants were then placed under arrest. 

 

A search of Tyshchenko revealed he was in possession of suspected marijuana and rolling papers.  A search of Bell and Colop-Torres revealed they were in possession of alprazolam pills and marijuana.  A search of Polishchuk revealed he was in possession of alprazolam pills.  As a result of the investigation, Tyshchenko was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of alprazolam, possession of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.  He was lodged in the Cumberland County Jail pending further court action.  Polishchuk was charged with possession of alprazolam and released on a summons.  Bell was charged with obstruction the administration of law, possession of alprazolam and marijuana along with drug paraphernalia.  He was released on summonses.  Colop-Torres was charged with possession of marijuana and alprazolam and he was released on a summons.
