Location: Chestnut Avenue and 7th Street

Driver #1: Rafael Diaz (M-33) Vineland

Pedestrian: Isidoro Gonzalez (M-29) Vineland

On December 3, 2016, Sgt. Armstrong and I responded to East Chestnut Avenue and South Seventh Street in regards to pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

Upon my arrival, I observed a male subject, later identified as Isidoro Gonzalez (Pedestrian), lying on his back in the westbound outside lane of Chestnut Avenue. I observed Gonzalez was bleeding from his face and nose area. Gonzalez was alert and conscious. Gonzalez provided me with his full name and stated he was crossing Chestnut Avenue from the south side to the north side of the road when he was struck by vehicle # 1. I was unable to get further details from the pedestrian because medical personnel were treating him. As a precautionary measure, Gonzalez was transported to Cooper Medical Center by Medevac helicopter for more advanced treatment.

I then spoke with Driver # 1, who stated he was traveling westbound in the outside lane of East Chestnut Avenue approaching the 7th St intersection. Driver # 1 indicated there was another vehicle (vehicle X) also traveling westbound but it was in the inside lane of Chestnut Avenue. Driver #1 stated vehicle X came to a stop and he continued and struck the pedestrian. Driver #1 said he was unable to see the pedestrian crossing because the position of vehicle X obstructed his view of the pedestrian. Vehicle X left the scene prior to my arrival.

Gonzalez was listed in stable condition at Cooper Hospital Trauma Center.

Isidoro Gonzalez was issued with traffic summons number 0614-VC-011778, Pedestrian crossing against signal (39:4-32).
