Vineland Police Department Traffic Press Release

Case#16-52146

Location: Main Road and Landis Avenue

Date: 8/24/16 @ 0810hrs

Call type: Collision

Driver #1: Robles, Alma (F-52)  Vineland

Driver #2: Alvarez, Christoph (M-29) Galloway

On this date, August 24, 2016, I was dispatched to the intersection of North Main Road and East Landis Avenue, in regards to a motor vehicle crash.

I arrived on scene, activated my Department issued Body Worn Camera (BWC) and approached the scene.  It should be noted: The Vineland Fire Department (Engine 61) was already on scene along with Vineland EMS tending to the drivers and the hazards of the scene.

Sgt. S. Harris was on scene prior to my arrival, and related he spoke with a witness, but she had to continue on to work.  Sgt. Harris related the witness stated she was stopped at the traffic light facing west on Landis Avenue, and it appeared both drivers had a green signal, and vehicle #1 turned in front of driver #2, causing the accident.

I spoke with driver #1 and she related she was traveling south on Main Road and attempting to turn left onto Landis Avenue. Driver #1 stated she as she was making her turn vehicle #2 was going too fast and struck her vehicle.  Driver #1 stated she had plenty of time to turn, but vehicle #2 was traveling too fast.

I then spoke with driver #2 and he related he was traveling north on Main Road approaching the intersection of Landis Avenue.  Driver #2 stated as he was entering the intersection, he observed driver #1 turning in front of him and he swerved to the right to try and avoid her, but she continued to turn left and they collided. Driver #2 related his vehicle continued off the roadway and struck the traffic signal.

Both drivers met with Vineland EMS but declined any services from them.

When I asked driver #1 for paperwork for the vehicle, she related the vehicle doesn’t have insurance, but the registration and title are at her residence. I advised driver #1 I will be issuing her a summons for failure to yield at the intersection and for not having insurance, and she added that she had the green arrow, and driver #2 had a red light and she had the right of way.  She further stated she didn’t have insurance because the vehicle was from a different State.

Vehicle #1 sustained moderate damage to the front end and was towed from the scene by Allonardo Brother’s.  Vehicle #2 sustained moderate damage to the front end on the driver side and was towed from the scene by Courthouse Towing.

Driver #1 was issued summons # 0614-vc-12148 for failing to yield at an intersection and summons # 0614-vc-12149 for no insurance.   Driver #1 was given a mandatory court date set for September 6, 2016 at the Vineland Municipal Court at 9:00 am.

Case#: 16-52173

Location: Delsea Drive and Gallagher Drive

Date: 8/24/16 @ 1024hrs

Call type: Collision

Driver #1: Bierig, Alan (M-54) Margate

On this date, August 24, 2016, I was dispatched to the area of Delsea Drive and Gallagher Drive, in regards to a single vehicle motor vehicle crash.  I arrived in the area, and located a vehicle pulled over on Gallagher Drive and a vehicle off the roadway, approximately 300 feet from Delsea Drive.

I arrived on scene, and observed a vehicle into a utility pole.  I exited my Patrol vehicle (807), activated my Department issued Body Worn Camera (BWC) and approached the scene.  Driver #1 stated he was returning to work in the Industrial Park, after running an errand to the Post Office.  He stated he turned onto Gallagher Drive from Delsea Drive and began coughing violently, and must have blacked out.  Driver #1 stated when he came to, he was into the utility pole, and doesn’t recall hitting it.

I asked driver #1 if he was injured and the only complaint of pain was to his right hand.  He then unwrapped his hand and showed me several small lacerations.  Vineland EMS was requested at the scene and arrived moments later.  Driver #1 met with EMS, but declined any further medical treatment.

Vehicle #1 sustained extensive front end damage and was towed from the scene by Forest Grove Auto Body (driver #1 contacted his own tow.)

The struck by vehicle #1, was snapped at the base and pushed approximately 8-10 inches from its original position.  Pole # 0711/G22102 needed immediate attention and the Vineland Municipal Electric Utility (VMEU) was notified to respond.  A short time later a representative from the VMEU arrived on scene as well as representative from Atlantic City Electric.  It was determined the pole is owned by Atlantic City Electric, but VMEU has equipment attached to it as well.  They advised that I wouldn’t be needed on scene, and they have crews en route to replace the pole.   As I checked the area of where vehicle #1 left the roadway, I didn't see any skid marks or torn up grass which leads me to believe, driver #1 never applied the brakes.

At this time, no summonses were issued and the crash was deemed to be reportable.

Driver # 1 advised me he was north bound on the fast lane of South East Boulevard, approaching East Quince Street.  Driver # 1 stated that he went to pass a slower moving vehicle in front of him by merging to the outside lane of South East Boulevard, but while doing so the slower traffic also merged onto the outside line of South East Boulevard, blocking the roadway in front of him.  Driver # 1 stated he was forced to leave the roadway to avoid colliding with said vehicle.

At the time this incident was taking place, I, Officer Fredrick DeMary, North bound on South East Boulevard, following vehicle # 1.  I observed the incident take place.  I observed vehicle # 1 traveling at what appeared to be a higher rate of speed posted for that section of roadway.  In the area of South East Boulevard and East Quince Street, the posted speed limit is 25 miles per hour.  Vehicle # 1 speed was greater than 25 mph.  I also observed the vehicle travelling in front of vehicle # 1 merge from the inside lane onto the outside lane of South East Boulevard, possibly to avoid vehicle # 1.
