Driver # 2 stated she was stopped at the intersection of Becker Drive and Oak Road at the stop sign. She observed a vehicle traveling East on East Oak Road toward Becker Drive. Believing the vehicle was going slow enough she started to proceed however she realized the vehicle was traveling too fast and was too close so she stopped at which time her vehicle was struck from behind.

She exited the vehicle with her son since the front end was severely damaged and not drivable. She stated neither of them were injured from the collision and provided me with her documents and information. Since the vehicle was no longer drivable I requested a tow truck respond to the scene. Location: Sherman Ave. and Delsea Drive

Case#: 38222-2016

Officer: A. Capelli

Driver #1: Unknown (Hit and Run)

Driver #2: Margaret Miller 59 of Bridgeton NJ

On this date, June 26, 2016, I was dispatched to West Sherman Avenue, in the area of the U-Sell Flea Market (Sherman Avenue Entrance) for a hit and run collision. I arrived on scene and located driver #2.  As I exited my Patrol vehicle (810), I activated my Department issued Body Worn Camera (BWC) and captured my interaction with driver #2 and the witness.

Driver #2 stated she was traveling east on Sherman Avenue, heading towards Delsea Drive, when a vehicle exited the entrance/exit from the U-Sell Flea Market and struck her vehicle. Driver #2 stated the vehicle traveling in front of her was making a right hand turn into the Flea Market and the vehicles coming towards her had their left blinkers, to turn into the Flea Market.  Driver #2 stated as she was going around the vehicle in front of her, vehicle #1 exited the Flea Market and struck the side of her vehicle.  She stated as she pulled to the side of the road, vehicle #1 made a left turn onto Sherman Avenue and traveled west towards the hospital.  Driver #2 stated there were possibly two subjects in the vehicle that were either Hispanic or White.

Driver #2 stated vehicle #1 was a maroon Chevrolet Astro van with an unknown registration and should have front end damage.

Driver #2 stated she wasn't injured from the crash, but she was "shaken up" I asked her if she wanted an ambulance and stated that she didn't want one.  As I was speaking with driver #2, a witness arrived on scene and related she observed the crash, but when she went to turn around in the parking lot of the Flea Market, she had to go all the way around.  The witness identified herself as Dorothy McPherson and she related she was traveling on Sherman Avenue, when she observed vehicle #1 exit the parking lot and strike vehicle #2. She further related vehicle # 1 was occupied by four Mexican subjects, male driver, female front passenger, and two children in the rear seats.

Vehicle #2 sustained moderate damage to the passenger side doors, but was able to be driven from the scene.

Once the identity of driver #1 is determined, the proper summonses will be issued.
