Dispatched to the area of N. Main Rd. and E. Wheat Rd. for a collision. Upon my arrival, I spoke with driver #1, who related the following about the incident. Driver #1 stated that he was heading south bound on N. Main Rd. approaching the intersection with E. Wheat Rd. He stated that as he was passing through the intersection, vehicle #2 came out of nowhere and struck his vehicle. He stated that after he was struck, his vehicle flipped on the side and slid further south on S. Main Rd. Driver #2 stated that he was heading west bound on E. Wheat Rd. approaching the intersection with Main Rd. He stated that he did not remember what color his light was. He stated that as he was going through the intersection he struck vehicle #1. Driver #1 complained of pain but refused medical treatment. EMS responded to the scene and transported both occupants from vehicle #1 to Inspira Health. Both occupants complained of pain. No witnesses were located at the scene, however, I was able to view video from the Shell gas station, located at the south east corner of the intersection. The video showed vehicle #2 stopped at the red light, behind two vehicles, on E. Wheat Rd. getting ready to continue west bound. The two vehicles in front, proceeded to turn right on red and continue north on N. Main Rd. Vehicle #2 is then seen heading into the intersection, west bound, while vehicle #1 entered, south bound. Vehicle #1 was a box truck, used to transport produce. The truck had flipped on the passenger side, which possibly damaged the product inside. The product was off loaded from vehicle #1 before it could be up righted. The produce consisted of green leaf lettuce and Cilantro valued at $3000.00. Vehicle #1 sustained substantial damage to the driver's side rear and passenger side of the vehicle. Vehicle #1 was towed from the scene by Battelini. Vehicle #2 sustained major damage to the front of the vehicle and was towed by Williams. Next I responded to Inspira Hospital to speak to driver #2 further. I advised him off the video I watched of the collision and told him what had appeared to have happened. Driver #2 stated that he was looking down at the radio and may have went through the intersection because the cars in front of him moved. He stated that his occupant then yelled that a truck was coming so he attempted to "gun" the vehicle to avoid the truck, but ended up colliding with the truck. Driver #2 was issued the following summons: 0614-VC-005787, 39:4-81, Failure to observe signal

Case#: 35311-2016
Officer: A. Capelli
Driver #1: Unknown (Hit and Run)
On this date, June 13, 2016, I was dispatched to the area of Industrial Way and DeMarco Drive, in regards to motor vehicle crash. As I entered the area, I located vehicle #2, parked along the north curb line of Industrial Way, approximately 30 feet east of DeMarco Drive. As I exited my Patrol vehicle, I activated my Department issued Body Worn Camera (BWC) and captured my interactions with the operator of vehicle #2. Driver #2 stated she clocked out of work at 1405 hours for her lunch break, and when she approached her vehicle, she noticed the front bumper was damaged as well as the front driver side fender. As I surveyed the damage to vehicle #2, I determined the damage to be caused by a large truck, such as a tractor trailer or a box truck. The damage to the vehicle that was on the front passenger fender was high closer to the hood and there was no damage to the lower portion of the vehicle. It should be noted: This area of the Industrial Park, is a high traffic area for tractors and trailers and other types of delivery vehicles, entering and exiting the area businesses, including Lucca's Cold Storage, where there are numerous trucks entering and exiting every few minutes. I checked the area businesses for any exterior surveillance cameras, and was able to locate cameras mounted on the exterior of Lucca's Cold Storage. I met with the Security personnel (Vince) and together we reviewed the surveillance footage with driver #2 (employee of Lucca's.) The only camera angle that would assist with the investigation, was from the most eastern portion of the Lucca's Packing house, and the footage of the roadway was blocked by a row of trees. At approximately 1346 hours, we observed a tractor trailer traveling west on Industrial Way, approach the area of vehicle #2 being followed by a D'Ottavio Produce truck. As the tractor and trailer entered the portion of the roadway, where vehicle #2 was parked, it appears the truck slows down, but the collision wasn't captured. I placed a telephone call to D'Ottavio Produce and learned the driver would have to call me back. Prior to me completing this investigation, I received a telephone call from Mark Melench (driver for D'Ottavio) and he related he observed the truck in front of him "rub" vehicle #2 as he was turning left into the eastern driveway of Lucca's Cold Storage. Mr. Melench stated after the tractor and trailer in front of him turned into Lucca's, he (Melench) continued towards the western driveway, and when he passed vehicle #2, he noticed the front bumper hanging off. Mr. Melench stated he didn't recall the name of the truck in front of him, or what it looked like, but he would contact this Officer if he has any additional information. I contacted driver #2 at Lucca's and advised her of the information that was provided to me from Mr. Melench. She related she was going to have shipping logs reviewed and have security try and determine which truck pulled in, in front of the D'Ottavio truck. Once new information is developed, this investigation will continue.
