NEWS RELEASE: COLLISIONS

Driver #1: Roger Justis 73 of Mayslanding Road

Driver #2: Widline Lesperance 30 of Millville

Driver#1 stated he was traveling north bound on 7TH Street when he proceeded to cross over Landis Avenue when Driver#2 disregarded the traffic signal traveling west bound on Landis causing the collision. Driver#1 stated he had the green light to proceed north bound.

Driver#2 stated she was traveling west bound on Landis Avenue when she thought she had the yellow light proceeding through the intersection causing the collision.  Driver#2 appeared to be uncertain if she had a yellow or red traffic signal.  Driver#2 also stated her three year old son was secured in the child restraint, but the child restraint seat was not secured.

After the collision vehicle #2 proceeded onto the sidewalk striking a concrete trashcan barrier.  The City of Vineland road department was notified.

Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were towed from the scene.  No reported injuries.  Occupants of vehicle #2 were transported to InSpira Health for precaution only.

Driver#2 was issued the following summons pending a court appearance.

Driver #1: Richard Melini 66 of Woodbury Heights

Driver #2: Darrel Clark 53 of Venus Drive

On June 1, 2016 at approximately 3:30PM, I responded to the area of Chestnut Avenue and Orchard Road for a two vehicle collision (Reportable/No Injuries).   

Upon my arrival, I spoke with driver#2 who stated that he was traveling south on Orchard Road approaching Chestnut Avenue.  Driver#2 stated that he had the green light so he was traveling through the intersection when he noticed driver#1 approaching the intersection.  Driver#2 stated that driver#1 did not stop and struck his vehicle on the rear driver side.   

Driver#2 stated that he was not injured from the collision and claimed no injuries.   

I then spoke with driver#1 who stated that he was traveling west on Chestnut Avenue and did not observe the red light.  Driver#1 stated that he went through the red light and struck driver#2’s vehicle on driver side.   

Driver#1 stated that he also was not hurt as a result of the collision.   

Driver#1 was issued summons #0614-VC-9260 for Failure to Observe Signal in violation of 39:4-81.

Location: East Ave. and Chestnut Ave.

Driver #2: Perry Maven 25 of N. Fourth Street

On June 1, 2016 at approximately 6:45PM, I responded to the area of East Avenue and Chestnut Avenue for a two vehicle collision.   

 

Note:  Prior to my arrival, Detective Fransko of this department was on scene and called for Vineland Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to respond to check on injuries.    

 

Upon my arrival, I spoke to driver#1 who stated that he was traveling east on Chestnut Avenue approaching East Avenue when driver#2 struck his vehicle.  Driver#1 had damage to the front of his vehicle which was disabled in the roadway.     

 

Driver#1 stated he was not injured as a result of the collision and claimed no injuries.   

 

Note:  Two on call tow trucks were contacted and dispatched to our location.   

 

I then spoke to driver#2 who stated that he was traveling south on East Avenue and had the green light when driver#1 ran the red light and struck his vehicle.  Driver#2 and his passenger both complained of pain from the collision. Both occupants of vehicle#2 were checked by EMS and ultimately signed off on form stating they wanted no further treatment.     

 

While on scene, Detective Fransko approached me and informed me that he witnessed the collision occur. He stated that he was in his vehicle facing north on East Avenue when his (Detective Fransko) light turned green so he began to drive forward and saw driver#1 never stop for the red light and struck driver#2’s vehicle.    

 

Driver#1 was issued summons #0614-VC-8417 for Failure to Observe Signal in violation of 39:4-81 and Summons #0614-VC-8418 for Drivers License Suspended in violation of 39:3-40.   

 

Driver#2 was issued Summons #0614-VC-8419 for his Driver’s License being suspended in violation of 39:3-40.  

 

Driver#1’s vehicle was towed from the scene by All Tow Towing and driver#2’s vehicle was towed from the scene by J&C Auto Sales.

Location: Main Road and Grant Ave

Driver #1: Russell Fiugalski 48 of Millville NJ

Driver #2: Unknown (Hit and Run)

Dispatched to the area of S. Main Rd. and E. Grant Ave. for a minor collision.  Upon my arrival, I spoke with driver #1, who related the following about the incident.  Driver #1 stated that he was heading north bound on S. Main Rd. slowing down for traffic.  Driver #1 stated that as he slowed down, vehicle #2 passed him on the left side and then quickly made its way back into the lane just in front of him.  He stated that vehicle #2 slightly tapped the front of his vehicle (motorcycle) which caused him to lay it down on the right side.  He stated that with the sudden stop, he was ejected over the handle bars, injuring his left shoulder.  Driver #1 stated that vehicle #2 then just took off, continuing north bound on S. Main Rd.

Driver #1 described vehicle #2 as a silver, Honda, possibly an Accord or Maxima, with a white female driver, with her hair down.  He did not notice any features to the vehicle that would distinguish it from other vehicles.  Driver #1 did not have any other information on vehicle #2.

Next I spoke with witness, Catheren Jellison, who related the following about the incident.  Jellison stated that she was standing near S. Main Rd. looking south bound.  She indicated that she noticed vehicle #2 pull in front of vehicle #1, and then she observed the vehicle #1 on the ground.  She indicated that vehicle #2 stopped momentarily, then continued north bound on S. Main Rd.  She described vehicle #2 as a Honda, silver in color and possibly an Accord. 

The investigation at the scene revealed the point of impact to be approx. 150 feet south of the south road edge of E. Grant Ave. and 10 feet west of the east road edge of S. Main Rd.  The point of impact was determined by the statement of driver #1.

Driver #1 complained of pain to the left shoulder.  Vehicle #1 sustained minor damage to the right side which was caused from the motorcycle being dropped.

Thursday, June 02, 2016 I was sent to North East Avenue and East Park Avenue for a two vehicle crash. Upon arriving I first determined that none of the occupants of either vehicle were claiming any injuries.  

 

I first spoke with driver two who explained that he was waiting in traffic behind driver one. He explained that the traffic light turned green and he noticed vehicle one’s brake lights go off and the vehicle began moving forward. Driver two then explained that driver one stopped again suddenly at which time he hit her from behind.  

 

Upon speaking with driver one, she explained that she was stopped in traffic waiting for the traffic light to turn green. Driver one explained that as the light turned green she took her foot off of the brake and was suddenly struck from behind by driver two.  

 

Vehicle one sustained minor damage to the rear bumper and was driven from the scene by the driver. Vehicle two sustained minor damage to the front bumper and was also driven from the scene by the driver.  

 

No summonses were issued in this case.

Driver #1: Kathleen Pearce 65 of Nelson Ave.

Driver #2: Kimberly Mitchell 50 of S. Spring Road

Driver #1 stated she was traveling in the left turn lane on Main Rd. to approach the intersection of Main Rd. and Sherman Ave.  She stated vehicle #2 then pulled out of the Major Gas Station at a high rate of speed and struck her vehicle.

Driver #2 stated she was at the Major Gas Station fueling her vehicle.  She stated she attempted to pull out of the gas station on to Main Rd. through an opening in the traffic.  She stated she did not see vehicle #1 at which time they collided.

Witness #1 (Jerome Clements) related he was traveling north on Main Rd. at which time traffic stopped.  He stated he left a space between his vehicle and the vehicle in front of him at which time Driver #2 attempted to pull into traffic at a high rate of speed and struck vehicle #1.

Driver #1 had complaint of pain to her chest and was transported to IHN by Vineland EMS.

Vehicle #1 sustained damage to the front passenger side wheel area and was towed from the vehicle by Giancola's.  Vehicle #2 sustained damage to the front portion of the vehicle and was towed from the scene by a private tow.

Driver #2 was issued the following summons.
0614 VC 008336     Failure to Yield when emerging from a driveway     39:4-66B

Subpoenas were issued in regards to the above summons.

Location: Old Union Road and Delsea Drive

Pedalcyclist: James Buckalew 32 of Millville

Driver: Hope Shults 50 of Millville NJ

The pedalcyclist stated as he was riding his bicycle north on the west side sidewalk of S. Delsea Dr., he attempted to cross over the Old Union Rd. when he was struck by vehicle #2. When I asked if he had the right of way, whether the light was red or green, he stated he did not remember.

 

Driver number two stated as she was traveling west on Old Union Rd. and crossing over S. Delsea Dr. the pedalcyclist suddenly appeared and attempted to cross Old Union Rd causing the collision.

 

The witness stated he observed when the pedalcyclist was crossing Old Union Rd and when vehicle #2 struck him. The witness further stated he believes vehicle #2 had the right away.

 

The pedalcyclist sustained a laceration to the right side of his head and complained of pain to his right shoulder. He was transported to Inspira by Vineland EMS.

 

The pedalcyclist was issued summons number 0614-VC- for failing to observe the traffic signal.

Driver #1: Heather Burke 42 of the 2000 block of S. E. Boulevard

Driver #2: Xavier Marrero 23 of Summer Street

On 06/02/2016 I was dispatched to the area of South Lincoln Avenue and Dante Avenue in regards to a hit and run collision.  Prior to my arrival dispatch advised Driver #1 had followed Vehicle #2, but Vehicle #1 was now stopped on the side of the road in the area of South East Boulevard and Grant Avenue.  Dispatch stated Driver #1 was able to obtain Vehicle #2's license plate (NJ D46CSP), and Vehicle #2 was traveling towards the Cumberland Mall (3849 South Delsea Drive). 

Upon my arrival to the area of South East Boulevard and Grant Avenue, I spoke to Driver #1 who stated the following:  Driver #1 stated she was at the intersection of South Lincoln Avenue and Dante Avenue.  Driver #1 said she was at a complete stop in the south bound lane on south Lincoln Avenue.  Driver #1 advised while stopped, the left arrow signal turned green, however she remained at a complete stop.  Driver #1 stated while stopped, she suddenly felt a "bump" and believed her vehicle had been struck.  Driver #1 stated after she was struck, she pulled over to the side of the road, but Vehicle #2 continued travelling south on Lincoln Avenue.  Driver #1 advised she began following Vehicle #2, and she was able to obtain Vehicle #2's license plate which she provided to dispatch.  Driver #1 did not report any injuries while on scene.  Driver #1 described Vehicle #2 as a Gray in color Honda Civic.  

Vehicle #1 sustained minor scratch marks to the rear bumper portion, and was driven from the scene by Driver #1. 
 
After speaking to Driver #1, dispatch informed me the license plate Driver #1 provided (NJ D46CSP) came back to a 2007 Gray in color Honda Civic (VIN# 2HGFA165X7H313855).  It was also discovered the registered owner of the Honda Civic was Xavier Marrero (521 Summer Street, Vineland, NJ, 08360).  At this time I traveled to 521 Summer Street to locate the owner of the Honda Civic. 

Upon my arrival to 521 Summer Street, I spoke to Javier Marrero Sr who stated the following: Javier informed me his son (Xavier Marrero) did own a Honda Civic, however Xavier was not at the residence.  Javier called Xavier on his cell phone, and it was discovered Xavier was at the Cumberland Mall.  After discovering Xavier's location, I travelled to the Cumberland Mall to speak to him. 

Upon my arrival at the Cumberland Mall I spoke to Xavier who stated the following:  Xavier explained he was the operator of the Honda Civic at the time of the collision.  Xavier stated he was behind Vehicle #1 at the intersection of South Lincoln and Dante Avenue.  Xavier advised he was at a complete stop behind vehicle #1, and while stopped, he looked "down".  Xavier stated when he looked back up the left arrow signal was green, and he began to move forward. 

Xavier said while moving forward he realized Vehicle #1 was not moving, and he applied the brakes, and came to a complete stop.  Xavier advised when he moved forward he did not collide with Vehicle #1.  Xavier stated when the south bound lane signal turned green, he began travelling south on Lincoln Avenue.  Xavier advised when he began travelling, he observed Vehicle #1 making a right hand turn on to Dante Avenue.  Xavier stated he did not believe he struck vehicle #1, so he continued travelling south.  Xavier did not have a complaint of pain.

Xavier did not report any damage to Vehicle #2.   


No summonses issued.

Driver 1 stated she was behind Vehicle 2 west on Sherman Avenue at Hance Bridge Road stop sign. She stated Vehicle 2 began to proceed forward behind Vehicle 2 when it stopped suddenly and she crashed into the back of it causing minor damage.

Driver 2 stated she was west on Sherman Avenue stopped at the stop sign at Hance Bridge Road.  She stated she began to move forward however her vision was obstructed by a vehicle parked near the corner, "Vehicle X".  She stated as she moved forward a bit and stopped her vehicle was struck from behind by Vehicle 1.  

No citations were issued however both drivers were advised of their complaint options.

The MVR in my low profile Vineland Police Traffic Unit patrol vehicle, T5, a 2011 grey Dodge Charger was recording for the duration of the call.

Driver #3: Ervin Williams 65 of Egg Harbor Twp. NJ

Driver # 1 advised me he was south on North Main Road approaching the intersection of North Main Road and East Wheat Road.  Driver # 1 advised me the traffic light controlling his lane of travel turned from green to yellow.  Driver # 1 then said he was unfamiliar with the roadways and took his eyes from the intersection to look for a street sign.  Driver # 1 then told me he believed the traffic light controlling his lane of travel was still yellow, so he proceeded forward, at which time his vehicle was struck. 

Driver # 2 stated she was stopped on the west bound lane of travel for East Wheat Road, at the intersection of East Wheat Road and North Main Road, for a red traffic signal.  Driver # 2 said when the traffic signal turned green controlling her lane of travel, she began to proceed forward into the intersection.  Driver # 2 said once she entered the mentioned intersection she observed vehicle # 1 disregard the traffic light, causing the two vehicles to collide.

Driver # 3 advised he was stopped on the east bound lane of East Garden Road, at the intersection of East Garden Road and North Main Road for a red traffic light.  Driver # 3 stated that when the traffic light turned green he began to move forward, but while doing so he observed vehicle # 1 disregard a red traffic signal controlling its lane of travel and collide with vehicle # 1.  After the collision between vehicle # 1 and vehicle # 2, Driver # 3 advised vehicle # 1 struck the driver's side of his vehicle.

Vineland Fire Department and Vineland EMS responded to the scene due to the nature of the crash.  Driver # 3 was transported to Inspira Hospital for a medical evaluation due to the impact vehicle # 3 received from vehicle # 1.  Driver # 3 advised me at the scene he was unsure if he had any injuries at that time because he was still shaken from the crash.  Driver # 1 and Driver # 2 denied any injuries from this crash.  Driver # 2 advised she would respond to Inspira Hospital at a later time for an examination, even though she had no reported injuries. 

Vehicle # 3 was towing a utility trailer of lawn equipment at the time of the crash.  This vehicle was towed from the scene by All Tow Service.  Information on the utility trailer is listed below,

The utility trailer towed by vehicle # 3 was not damaged from the collision.  

Investigation revealed that Driver # 1 disregard of a red traffic signal (39:4-81) was the cause of this crash.  Driver # 1 was issued summons # 0614 VC 010794 for said violation.
