On Thursday, May 26, 2016, Mrs. Cathy Burke, philanthropist and owner of the Irish Pub in Atlantic City, received the 2016 New Jersey Women in Law Enforcement Police Benefactor Award.  Cathy was nominated for this award by ACPD Lieutenant Edward Leon.  Cathy Burke and her husband Richard are and have always been very strong supporters of the Police and Fire Departments.

Cathy is the Chairwoman of the Irish Pub Children’s Foundation, which supports several important projects; including providing financial support to the families of fallen first responders of the South Jersey and Greater Philadelphia areas.  She sponsors a fundraiser each year, since 1988, to support this mission called the Tour De Shore.  This is a 65 mile bike ride from the Irish Pub in Philadelphia to the one in Atlantic City, made of over 2200 cyclists and raising over $865,000 last year.  Cathy is also a founding board member of the Atlantic City Police Foundation, and their single highest donor to the organization.

Cathy was a catalyst in erecting a monument on the Atlantic City Boardwalk for police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty, located near her business.  She maintains and cares for this beautiful memorial daily.  She had previously donated a bronze plaque for each member of the Atlantic City Police Department killed in the line of duty, which are set into the sidewalk in front of the police station.  Cathy also donated a dog to the ACPD to be trained and deployed to protect the citizens of Atlantic City.  K9 Clancy and his partner Officer John Devlin defend the city on regular patrols and safeguard the officers on the street. 

The overall generosity of Cathy Burke is astonishing.  Always supporting those on the front line and their families, she is a great friend to law enforcement and the Atlantic City Police Department.  We congratulate her on her award and her unwavering support for first responders.
