Driver #1: Brian Caterina 55 of Jefferson Ave.

Driver#1 stated that he was traveling west on Chestnut Ave in the right lane approaching State St. He said a school bus had stopped in the left lane to make a left turn on to Yale Terrace. Driver#1 said a car going east bound suddenly made a left turn in front of him as he was passing the bus. He said he applied his brake and swerved to the right to avoid impact with vehicle#1. Driver#1 said he struck the curb, the traffic signal post, a utility pole and rested on top of a fire hydrant. He said the car in front of him pulled over to make sure he was not injured.

Investigation at the scene revealed that vehicle#1 was in the original position of rest after impact. Point of impact was determined by the position of vehicle#1 against the utility pole. Point of impact was approximately 0 feet west of the west curb line of State St. After striking the curb, vehicle#1 traveled 15 feet west and struck a traffic light standard. Vehicle#1 continued traveling in a west direction and struck a utility pole which sits about 6 feet from the traffic signal. After striking the traffic signal, vehicle#1 continued traveling west and struck a fire hydrant where it stopped. Vehicle#1 stopped with the left front portion of the vehicle on top of the hydrant. Note that the fire hydrant did not appear to be damaged.

I spoke with the driver of the car (vehicle x) that made the left turn in front of vehicle#1. The driver stated that she was traveling east on Chestnut Ave and stopped to make a left turn on to State St.  She said there was a school bus stopped in the inside left east bound lane waiting to make a left turn.  The driver said she could not see around the bus so she proceeded to make her left turn on to State St. She said while turning in front of the bus, she saw vehicle#1 traveling west bound in the right lane. The driver said he swerved to avoid impact with her car and struck the curb. She said after vehicle#1 jumped the curb, it struck a traffic signal standard, a utility pole and as fire hydrant. She said she stopped to see if driver#1 was injured.

Vineland Electric Utility and the Water Department responded to the scene. Driver#1 was written a subpoena. The female driver was issued a summons (VC009215) for Improper Left Turn. Driver#1 said he was not injured from the accident.

Driver #2: Faith Barbee 34 of Bridgeton NJ

On this date, May 26, 2016, I was dispatched to the area of North Delsea Drive and West Landis Avenue, in regards to a motor vehicle crash.  When I arrived on scene, I met with driver #2 who was parked in the lot of Sears Automotive (8 West Landis Avenue), and he related the following information.

Driver # 2 stated he was traveling north on North Delsea Drive in the area of the Kentucky Fried Chicken, when vehicle #1 approached his vehicle on the driver side, and struck the front fender of his vehicle. Driver # 2 stated he didn't see where vehicle #1 came from when the crash occurred.

Driver # 2 stated driver #1 continued down the roadway, but did pull over and speak with him.  Driver #2 stated he contacted the Police Department to report the incident and driver #1 remained on scene.  He stated while they were awaiting the arrival of the Officer, driver #1 stated she couldn't wait any longer and wrote down all of her information and also stated "I think I passed him on the wrong side + side swiped his car."  The paper was also signed by the driver Faith Barbee.

Driver #2 reported he was not injured during the crash and EMS was not needed.  Vehicle #2 sustained moderate damage to the driver side front fender along with minor blue/green paint transfer, but was able to be driven from the scene.

Due to the time of day and heavy traffic flow, I was unable to locate any vehicle debris in the roadway.

After clearing the scene, I had Police Dispatch contact the Bridgeton Police Department, to respond to driver #1's residence to advise her to contact this Officer, but there was no response at the door.  A note was left for her to contact this Agency.  Prior to completing this report Bridgeton Police responded a second time, but they were unable to make contact a second time.

This investigation will continue once driver #1 is interviewed.

On this date, May 27, 2016, I received a message from Police Dispatch requesting that I contact driver #1 from the motor vehicle crash at Delsea and Landis.  I spoke with driver #1 and made arrangements to meet with her at Vineland Police Headquarters.  After driver #1 arrived at Headquarters, we discussed the crash and she related the following information.  Driver # 1 stated she was stopped behind vehicle #2, while they were waiting to turn right (north) onto Delsea Drive from Landis Avenue.

Driver #1 stated both vehicles turned onto Delsea Drive, but she is unsure how the crash occurred. Initially she stated she thought the crash occurred when they turned onto Delsea Drive but she believes she entered the wrong lane (center turn lane) and was attempting to get back over into the correct lane and side swiped his vehicle.

Driver #1 stated she isn't actually sure how the crash occurred, but she did strike vehicle #2 on Delsea Drive.

It should be noted: As I spoke with driver #1, she appeared calm and truthful, but she did not recall exactly where and how the crash occurred.  At this time no summonses were issued to either driver.

Officer: R. Magee

Driver: Alexander Roman 26 of E. Walnut Road

Driver 1 stated at the scene that he was traveling through the complex of 794 E. Walnut Road when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a fence. Driver 1 said that his tire had blown out causing him to lose control of the vehicle and strike a concert pillar. After striking the pillar the vehicle continued to travel south through the driveway and then struck a metal fence. Vehicle 1 tried to back up and became stuck because the tire was riding on the rim. Driver 1 was said he was trying to move the vehicle himself into a parking stall.

Investigation at the scene revealed a point of impact (POI) to be on the property of 794 E. Walnut Road, on the west side driveway. POI was determined by driver statements and position of vehicle.

Driver 1 was given a series of field sobriety tests (FSTs) also during this investigation. After the tests were complete, it did not appear that he was under the influence of an alcohol beverages. Driver 1 was given these tests because it appeared that he had a slurred speech.

Vehicle 1 sustained moderate damage to the passenger side front tire and passenger side front end. Vehicle 1 was towed from the scene because it was a hazard, blocking the driveway, and we could not make contact with the registered owner. A hold was placed on the vehicle until it was determined driver 1 had permission to drive the vehicle. Vehicle 1 was towed from the scene by Giancola.

Driver 1 did not sustain any injuries.
