NEWS RELEASE: COLLISIONS

Driver #1: John Sabados 31 of the 500 block of E. Oxford Street

Driver #2: Yurichia Gunn 37 of the 300 block of Axtell Ave.

Driver #3: Melvyn Clifford 52 of the 1000 block of Sharp Road

Driver # 1 stated he was east on Park Avenue near 4th Street when he was startled by a construction work zone in the east bound lane, closest to the curb line.  He stated he saw cones and vehicles in the roadway however he was not aware of a work zone as he was approaching, stating there were no pre-work zone warning signs on Park Ave.  He stated as he made his abrupt lane change he saw an unknown female on the northern sidewalk taking photos, of what he believed was the construction zone.  He stated he looked back at the roadway in front of him and saw that traffic was stopped for the red traffic signal.  He stated he attempted to stop however his vehicle slid on the roadway which was wet from a recent snow fall.  Driver # 1 was issued citation 0614-VC-9018 for Careless Driving, 39:4-97 with a court date before the Vineland Municipal Court.

Driver # 2 stated she was east on Park Avenue and stopped in traffic at Northwest Blvd when Vehicle # 1 crashed into the back of her vehicle.  She stated the impact caused her vehicle to crash into the back of stopped vehicle # 3 in front of her.

Driver # 3 stated he was east on Park Avenue and stopped in traffic at Northwest Blvd when Vehicle # 2 crashed into the rear or his vehicle.

The work zone was under control of the City of Vineland LSA, Landis Sewerage Authority, and Job Foreman Patrick V. Welsh.  I requested he stop all work and have a supervisor from his agency respond directly to the scene.  I also summoned Ofc. DeMary, of the Traffic Safety Unit, to the scene due to the work zone.  Sgt. Garrison, Traffic Safety Unit, was on-scene prior to my arrival and summoned EMS to the scene.  

A short time later, Anthony Tobolski (Engineering/Construction Technician) and Robert A. Schwarz, (Field Engineer) of The Landis Sewerage Authority responded to the scene and spoke to Ofc. DeMary.  I advised them they were being recorded via MVR's on scene.  After their discussion, per Ofc. DeMary the work zone was temporary in nature and would last < than 1 hour.  

I traveled to Park Avenue/West Avenue and recorded through my MVR the roadway approaching the work zone in my low profile Vineland Police Traffic Unit patrol vehicle, T5, a 2011 grey Dodge Charger equipped with a MVR.  A Vineland Police Department Request for Electronic Evidence Preservation form was submitted to Sgt. Fulcher, Services Division, for MVR from vehicle T1, T5 and 807 (see attached form).

Driver #3: Lourdes Lugo 45 of W. Oak Road Vineland NJ

Driver #1 stated that while traveling north on N. Delsea Drive her foot slipped off of the break which caused her to crash into vehicle #2.  Vehicle#2 then struck Vehicle#3.  Driver#1 and her passenger claim no injuries on scene.  Driver#1 was issued Summons# VC-006699 for Careless Driving and Summons# VC-006698 for Unlicensed Driver. 

Driver#2 stated while stopped in traffic facing north bound on N. Delsea Drive she was struck by Vehicle#1 causing her to crash into Vehicle#3.  Driver#2 and her passenger claimed no injuries on scene. 

Driver#3 stated while stopped in traffic facing north bound on N. Delsea Drive she was struck by Vehicle#2.  Driver#3 claimed no injuries on scene. 

All vehicle were driven from the scene.  This Officer did not witness this crash.  There were no witnesses on scene.  Driver#2 and Driver#3 were issued subpoenas to testify in court. 

Heavy traffic / minimal damage on all vehicles involved.

Driver #2: Luz Lugo 40 of the 1900 block of W. Korff Drive

Note: Driver #2 called police from her residence approximately one hour after the collision to make a report. She stated she left after confronting Driver #1 at the scene and wanted to be safe at her residence before calling. Driver #1 stated he left the scene because Driver #2 drove off and he did believe any real damage to his vehicle had occurred. The diagram is based off of both driver’s description of the crash, as no evidence of the collision was located at the scene.

 

 

Driver #1 stated he was parked and in a parking stall at 530 E Landis Ave and was struck by Vehicle #2 as Vehicle #2 was backing out of a parking stall. Driver #2 stated she was backing out of a parking stall, but was struck by Vehicle #1 as it was pulling forward out of a parking stall behind her.

 

 

There were no complaints of pain from any occupant at this time. All occupants declined any medical evaluation or treatment.

 

 

Vehicle #1 sustained minor damage to the front bumper of the vehicle. Vehicle #2 sustained minor damage to the rear passenger fender of the vehicle. Vehicle #1 was driven from the scene. Vehicle #2 was driven from the scene.

 

 

No summonses were issued.

 

 

No witnesses were located at the scene.

Driver #1: Bryan Kaganzev 35 of the 200 block of Doren Terrace

On this date, February 6, 2016, I was dispatched to the area of South Orchard Road in the area of Estrose Street, in regards to a motor vehicle crash involving a deer.  I arrived on scene, and located a deceased deer in the roadway approximately 620 feet south of Estrose Street.

I then met with driver #1 and he related the following information. Driver #1 stated he was traveling south on Orchard Road, traveling towards Walnut Road, when (3) deer entered the roadway from the east side of the road. Driver #1 indicated the incident happened so fast, he had no time to brake or swerve to avoid the animals that just entered the roadway.  Driver #1 stated (2) of the (3) deer struck his vehicle on the driver side front fender and his windshield and he believes the third deer struck his vehicle, but continued on heading west into the woods.

The one deer was deceased in the roadway, and the second was deceased on the west side of the road along the road edge.

Vehicle #1 sustained extensive damage to the driver side front fender and windshield and had to be towed from the scene by Rock Towing. No injuries were reported and Vineland EMS was not needed at the scene. 

No summonses were issued, since the crash was not driver #1's fault and was unavoidable.

Upon my arrival, I spoke with vehicle # 2 owner, Jasennia Gonzalez Lopez who stated she walked out from the store and noticed debris on the parking lot. She then noticed damage on the front side of her vehicle. Gonzalez stated her vehicle was unoccupied at the time of the crash. 

Vehicle # 2 was drive away from the scene by her owner.


Store Associate Randy Griebau stated she reviewed the footage and located the accident. I observed an older model GMC Sierra, Pick Up truck, orange with an unknown license plate backing up from a parking stall and crash with vehicle # 2. 

Vehicle # 1 was occupied by two unknown subjects.  Randy was unable to provided me with a copy of the camera footage due to  she was the only associate working in the store at that time.

Driver #2: Beech Fox Jr. 27 of Cape May Courthouse NJ

Driver #1 stated at the scene he was traveling North on Delsea Dr and was making a right turn into Ace Plumbing (601 S Delsea Dr) from the shoulder when vehicle #2 also made a right turn and crashed into his vehicle. Driver #1 was not injured. Vehicle #1 sustained damage to the front drivers side fender, side view mirror and door.

Driver #2 stated at the scene he was traveling North on Delsea Dr and he began to make a right turn into Ace Plumbing when vehicle #1 who was attempting to pass him on the right crashed into his vehicle. Driver #2 and the passenger in vehicle #2 were not injured. The passenger side mirror was damaged on vehicle #2.

No injuries were reported at the scene and no summonses were issued.

Driver 1 stated he was traveling north on N Main Rd when a white dog ran in the roadway, in his lane of travel. The dog appeared to have come from the apartment complex, 821 N Main Rd. He struck the dog from the driver side front bumper area. Damage to vehicle 1 was on the driver side front bumper area.

The dog is a white Pitbull. There was no collar on the dog, and the owner is unknown at this time.

Animal Control Officer Branin arrived on scene and took possession of the deceased dog.

Driver 1 stated he was stopped at the stop sign of W Oak Rd and NW Blvd going west bound on Oak road. Driver 1 stated he proceeded through the stop sign when vehicle 2 came out of nowhere and his vehicle struck vehicle 2. Driver 1 stated he believes vehicle 2 was behind the front blind spot he has in his vehicle. Driver 1 was not injured as a result of this collision. Vehicle 1 sustained moderate damage to the front end.

Driver 2 stated he was stopped at the stop sign at NW Blvd and W Oak Rd going North bound on NW Blvd. Driver 2 stated he proceeded through the stop sign when vehicle 2 ran the stop sign of W Oak Rd and struck his vehicle on the passenger side front and rear passenger side doors and rear panel. Driver 2 was not injured as a result of this collision. Vehicle 2 sustained heavy damage to the passenger side front and rear door. Vehicle 2 rear passenger side tire was damaged as a result of the collision. Vehicle 2 was towed by Bee Bros.

Driver #1: Cory Stanley 43 of the 700 block of S. East Ave.

Driver #1, Corey Stanley, stated she was traveling north bound on Union Rd, when she saw a deer run out into the roadway.  Corey indicated she began to slow down and watched the deer cross the roadway.  After the deer crossed the roadway, she proceeded to drive forward when another deer suddenly ran out into the roadway, causing her to strike the deer. The deer then got up and began to walk away before it finally succumbed to its injuries in the middle of the roadway.

Driver #1 didn't complain of any injuries, but her vehicle sustained moderate damage causing it to be towed from the scene.

Driver #1: Bonnie Rivera 49 of the 1200 block of Mcclain Drive

Driver #2: Dominique Evans 22 of the 1000 block of Mars Place

Driver #1 said she was stopped at a red light on East Park Ave when driver #2 rear ended her car. Driver #1 said from the impact of driver #2 vehicle rear ending her vehicle cause her neck to snap back in a fast motion which cause the back of her head to hit the driver seat head rest. Driver #1 said after driver #2 rear ended her driver #2 immediately left the scene heading West on Park Ave. Driver #1 was able to describe Driver#2 as a black male. Driver #1 complaint of pain to the back of her head and neck from the collision. Vineland EMS responded to the scene of the crash. Driver #1 refuse medical treatment at the scene. Driver #1 said she going to take herself to Inspira Health Network. Driver #1 had minor to moderate damage to the back bumper of her vehicle. 

Witness #1 (Ryan Thorton) was found at the scene of the crash. Witness #1 said he was behind driver #2 at the time of the crash. Witness #1 said he saw Driver #2 hit the back of driver #1 and left the scene. Witness #1 stated that he got the license plate number of driver #2 vehicle and that driver #2 was driving a black car which he believed to be a Volvo.

Witness #2 (Maria Pineda) was found at the scene of the crime. Witness #2 said she was behind driver #2 and witness #1 at the time of the crash. Witness #2 said she saw driver #2 hit the Back of driver #1 and leave the scene. Witness #2 said driver #2 was driving a black car. 

NJ license plate number X98EWR was ran by dispatch and came back to a black Chrysler 200 owned by Lydia Harden address 1055 Mars Pl. I went to the residents in an attempt to locate the driver#2. Upon my arrival I saw a black Chrysler 200 in the driveway of 1055 Mars Pl with damage to the front bumper. I attempted to locate the owner by knocking on the resident’s door and having dispatch place calls to the house but there was no answer. I had dispatch place a call to a tow truck company to tow the car. While I waited for the tow truck I began to knock on neighbors doors to obtain more information on the owner of the vehicle. My search came back negative  As the tow truck started to back up to Driver #2 vehicle that is when driver #2 (Dominique Evans) came out and admitted to driving and hitting vehicle #1. Driver #2 vehicle was left at his residents.

Driver #2 said he was driving down East Park Ave heading west and that is when he hit the back bumper of driver #1 with the front bumper of his vehicle. Driver #2 said he was driving on a suspended driver license and he was scared he would get put jail for driving with a suspended driver license. Driver #2 said after he rear ended driver #1 he immediately left the scene of the accident and headed to 1055 Mars Pl. Driver #2 had no complaint of pain. Driver #2 had minor damage to the front bumper of his vehicle.

Driver #2: Jerry Robles 28 of the 1000 block of N.E. Boulevard

Driver #1 stated she was entering onto North Delsea Drive from the Walmart (1070 West Landis Avenue) exit; following behind Vehicle #2. Driver #1 stated she entered North Delsea Drive behind Vehicle #2 and was looking both ways to make sure traffic was not coming. Driver #1 stated she did not see any traffic and continued behind Vehicle #2 when he stopped in the center turn lanes causing her to rear end him. Driver #1 stated, “I don’t know why he (Driver #2) stopped.”     

 

Driver #2 stated he was entering onto North Delsea Drive from the Walmart (1070 West Landis Avenue) exit when he stopped in the center turn lanes to merge safely into the north bound lane. Driver #2 stated at that time he was rear ended by Vehicle #1.

 

No one on scene had a complaint of pain.

 

Vehicle #1 sustained moderate damage to the front end.

 

Vehicle #2 sustained moderate damage to the rear end.

 

Driver #1 was issued summons #0614-VC-009767 (Careless Driving; 39:4-97). Driver #2 was issued a subpoena with this report.

Driver #2: Tyrease Gibbs 37 of the 2000 block of Indian Drive

On 8 February 2016 I was dispatched to North East Avenue and Cambridge Place for a two vehicle collision. The driver of vehicle 1 was identified as Destiny L. Esquilin  (NJ registration WFT12H). The driver of vehicle 2 which is a school bus was identified as Tyrease M. Gibbs (NJ registration S1N37). 

Upon my arrival I spoke with Destiny regarding her account of the incident which she stated the following:

Destiny stated she was heading southbound on North East Avenue when the bus in front of her began braking. Destiny stated she attempted to brake as well but still rear ended the back of the bus. I observed on Destiny's vehicle sustaining front end damage, primarily to the hood of the vehicle. Destiny stated she did not suffer any injuries and provided me with her information and requested documents. 

I spoke with the driver of the school bus Tyrease regarding her account of the incident which she stated the following:

Tyrease stated she began to brake at which time she was rear-ended by the vehicle behind her. Tyrease stated she checked on the passengers on the bus then contacted the Board of Education to inform them of the accident. Tyrease provided me with her information as well as requested documents. Tyrease stated she was not injured. I checked with the students on the bus whom all stated they did not suffer any injuries. I observed the bus sustaining minor paint exchange, with no damage to the rear bumper.  

I collected the names of all the students and where they were seated on the bus at the time of the accident. I was provided with a roster containing the names and addresses of the students by the Board of Education. After the information was collected both parties were sent on their way. There were no summonses issued regarding the collision.

Driver #2: Maria Taveras-Nunez 53 of the 2000 block of W. Oak Road

Driver #1 stated she was traveling west bound on Roosevelt Boulevard approaching South Main Road. Driver #1 indicated she was behind Vehicle #2 when it made a “sudden stop.” Driver #1 advised she attempted to stop but, was too late and rear ended Vehicle #2.    

Driver #2 stated she was traveling west bound on Roosevelt Boulevard approaching South Main Road when she stopped as one of the children on the bus has a bus stop in the area. Driver #2 indicated at that time she was rear ended by Vehicle #1. Driver #2 stated, “I didn’t even know she (Driver #1) hit me until the kids told me.”  

Both drivers and all the occupants had no complaint of pain.

Vehicle #1 sustained moderate damage to the front end.

Vehicle #2 sustained no visible damage to the rear end.

Driver #1 was issued summons #0614-VC-009768 (Careless Driving; 39:4-97).

Driver #1 stated he was exiting Wawa parking lot when he attempted to make a left hand turn onto E Wheat Rd. He stated he was struck by a small white vehicle. Unknown make and model. He stated Vehicle #2 brushed along the front bumper of Vehicle #1. Driver #1 stated Vehicle #2 has front driver side damage. Driver #1 stated Vehicle #2 continued West bound on E Wheat Rd without stopping. Vehicle #1 suffered minor damage to his vehicle. Driver #1 claimed no injuries.

Driver 1 stated at the scene she was traveling South on Main Rd. and was in the Western most lane. She stated she changed lanes to get over in to the left turn lane for Chestnut Ave. and when she was moving past vehicle 2, which was stopped in the straight lane, she side swiped it.

Driver 1 was not injured as a result of the collision. Vehicle 1 sustained minor damage to the driver’s side and was able to be driven from the scene.

Driver 2 stated she was stopped in the straight lane when she was struck by vehicle 1 which was passing her. She was not injured as a result of the collision. Vehicle 2 sustained damage to the driver’s side rear fender and was able to be driven from the scene.

Driver #2: Jerry Marinacci 65 of Minotola NJ

Driver 1 stated he was traveling East bound on W Oak RD when his vehicle collided with vehicle 2 which was stopped at traffic due to a traffic jam at Sarah Place with abrupt stops. Driver 1 stated he looked down to grab something in his vehicle and could not stop in time before colliding with vehicle 2. Vehicle 1 sustained heavy damage to the front bumper and immobilized. Driver 1 was not injured as a result of this collision. Vehicle 1 was towed by JC Towing from the scene.

Driver 2 stated he was stopped in traffic in the East bound lane of W Oak RD due to a mail carrier vehicle stopped dropping off mail and several vehicles attempting to go around the vehicle. Driver 2 stated while stopped vehicle 1 collided with the rear of his vehicle. Vehicle 2 sustained moderate damage to the rear truck bed and bumper area. Driver 2 was not injured as a result of this collision.

No summons were issued.

Driver #2: Michael Reinhart 63 of Minnesota

On February 8th, 2016, I responded to 2321 Industrial way (Lucca's Freezer) for a two vehicle collision (No Injuries). 

Upon my arrival, I spoke to driver#2 who stated he was inside of his tractor trailer which was parked when driver#1 accidently backed into his vehicle.  Driver#2's vehicle sustained damage to the rear driver’s side. Driver#2 stated that he was not hurt as a result of the collision and declined medical attention. 

Driver#2 stated that driver#1 has since left the area but believes he is still on location somewhere. 

Note:  At the time of my arrival, the business was extremely busy with several tractor trailers on location. 

I was not able to locate driver#1 or the vehicle. Driver#2 was only able to provide me with a truck number of 2023 which was written in blue on the side of the truck.  He was not able to provide me with any further details.  

No witnesses to the incident could be located at this time.

Driver #1 stated he was traveling north bound on North Delsea Drive approaching West Park Avenue when the vehicle (#2) in front of him began to slow down to stop. Driver #1 stated, “She (Driver #2) kept slowing down then stopping and slowing down again.” Driver #1 indicated after Vehicle #2 stopped, he rear ended the vehicle.       

 

Driver #2 stated she was stopped at the intersection of North Delsea Drive/ West Park Avenue facing north bound as the traffic signal was red when she was suddenly rear ended by Vehicle #1. Driver #2 stated, “I was stopped at the light and just got hit.”

 

Both Drivers did not have a complaint of pain.

 

Vehicle #1 sustained minor damage to the front end.

 

Vehicle #2 sustained major damage to the rear end.

Driver #1: Moriah Merritt 25 of the 700 block of E. Garden Road

Driver #2: Unknown (Hit and Run)

On February 9th 2016 at approximately 6:00PM, I responded to the area of West Garden Road and North Mill Road, Vineland for a report of an overturned vehicle.  Upon my arrival, I located the overturned vehicle just west of Mill Road on the south side of Garden Road. 

I located the driver of vehicle#1 who was out of the vehicle and complaining of pain to her neck/back.  Vineland Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were contacted and dispatched to the scene. 

Driver#1 stated that she was traveling west on Garden Road approaching Mill Road when driver#2 suddenly entered the roadway.  Driver#1 stated that she attempted to avoid the collision by swerving but she was not able to and struck driver#2's front driver side causing her to lose control of her vehicle. Driver#1 was not able to provide me with a description other than the vehicle being dark in color.  

Vineland EMS arrived on scene and driver#1 was ultimately transported to Inspira Health Network for further treatment.    

I then spoke to a witness who stated that he was behind driver#2's vehicle facing south on Mill Road.  He stated that driver#2 was stopped at the stop sign attempting to cross the roadway when he "inched" into the roadway but stopped due to driver#1's vehicle approaching the intersection.  The witness stated that driver#1 attempted to swerve to avoid the collision but struck driver#2 front driver side of the vehicle.  He stated that driver#1 then lost control of her vehicle, went off the roadway on the south side of Garden Road, struck a fire hydrant and came to a rest over turned. He stated that driver#2 never stopped and fled the area heading south on Mill Road.  He described driver#2''s vehicle as being a dark colored sedan. 

Note:  Vineland Fire arrived on scene and were made aware of the hydrant struck. 

The entire area checked negative for vehicle#2.  

Allonardo Towing arrived on scene and took driver#1's vehicle.    

I then responded to IHN to speak further with driver#1 but she was not able to provide me with any further details.

Driver #2: Nancy Perez 48 of the 400 block of W. Grape Street

Driver 1 stated he was traveling south on S Delsea Drive when vehicle 2 stopped abruptly to make a left turn into a business and was unable to stop immediately and struck vehicle 2 in the rear bumper. Driver 1 stated he attempted to swerve out of the way before the collision occurred but did not stop in time. Vehicle 1 sustained heavy damage to front bumper and engine compartment. All front airbags deployed. Driver 1 complained of pain to his left wrist and was seen by EMS and transported to Inspira medical health center for his injuries. Vehicle 1 was towed by Court House Towing.

Driver 2 stated she was in the south bound lane of S Delsea drive attempting to make a turn with her left turn signal light on into a business on S Delsea Drive when her vehicle was struck on the rear bumper by vehicle 1. Driver 2 was not injured as a result of this collision. Vehicle 2 had moderate damage to the rear bumper but was able to be driven.


Driver 1 was driving a dealer owned vehicle. The following information is the policy information for the dealer vehicle owned by Vann Dodge Auto Group:
