NEWS RELEASE: CRASHES

Driver #1: Lisa Downs 48 of Minotola NJ

On 28 December 2015 I was dispatched to 1814 West Garden Road for a one car collision. The vehicle was later identified as NJ registration P14FDU (Exp. 03/2016). The vehicle was driven by Lisa M. Downs. I was informed via dispatch the driver sustained injuries during the crash as well as air bag deployment.

I spoke with Lisa regarding her account of the incident which she stated she was driving westbound on Garden Road. Lisa stated while driving a black trashcan blew from the side of the road into her lane. (Note: At the time of my arrival the weather conditions were windy) Lisa stated she did not see the trashcan in time to stop and struck the trashcan. Lisa stated the trashcan became lodged under her driver’s side tire and she no longer had steering control of the vehicle.

Lisa stated her vehicle then struck the tree located in front of 1814 West Garden Road. Lisa was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision as well as airbag deployment. Lisa stated she sustained her injuries during the accident. Lisa provided me with her documents prior to her transport to Inspira Hospital to be treated for her injuries.

A tow truck was called to the scene to remove the vehicle from the property. The owner of the property located at 1814 West Garden Road was advised of the accident. The homeowner Lisa Rosario (DOB 7/12/1981) stated she watched the accident occur and verified the drivers account. Rosario stated she understood a tree on her property was struck and stated it was fine and was not concerned about the damage. Giancola towing arrived on scene and removed the vehicle from the property. There is no further information at this time.  No summons were issued.

Driver #1: Jeanette Colon-Bonilla 43 of the 1000 block of Florence Ave.

Driver #2: Johnathan Roberts 22 of the 700 block of Foster Ave.

Driver #1 stated she was making a right turn onto Delsea Dr. from Landis Ave. and stopped due to oncoming traffic.  Upon stopping she was struck in the rear by vehicle #2.

Driver #2 stated he was behind vehicle #1 attempted to turn onto Delsea Dr. at which time vehicle #1 suddenly stopped at which time he struck the vehicle in the rear.

Vehicle #1 had no visible damage to the vehicle.  Vehicle #2 had no visible damage to the vehicle.

Jose Cubi who was a passenger in vehicle #1 had complaint of pain to his belly button due to a prior surgery.  He was transported to IHN for evaluation.

No summons were issued in regards to the collision.

Driver: Ayse Coco 25 of the 5000 block of E. Chestnut Ave.

Driver # 1 stated she was south on Union Road approaching Hawthorne Court when she saw a decaying tree fall from the wood line on the right side and across her travel path.  She stated another vehicle went around the tree in the opposite direction however she was unable to stop her vehicle in time and struck the tree.  

Upon a brief inspection of Vehicle #1 I found that 3 of the 4 tires had minimal tread depth and the inspection sticker was missing and replaced with a red rejected sticker.  Driver #1 stated the tires are "low profile tires and all season".  The only tire that had approximately 1/4" of tread depth was the driver side rear tire.  Driver #1 stated the inspection sticker was rejected because of the O2 sensor and she had not had the problem corrected as of yet.  She stated the inspection station did not provide her with any paperwork regarding the inspection failure.  

Driver #1 was issued summons 614-VC-9011 for Failure to Make Repairs, 39:8-4, and summons 0614-VC-9012 for Hazardous Tires, 39:3-72 both with a court date before the Vineland Municipal Court.  The County Road Department responded and removed the debris from the tree.  Driver #1 contacted a private tow company to remove her vehicle.

Driver #1: Adolfo Cruz Jr. 25 of the 300 block of S. Delsea Drive

Driver #1 stated he was traveling north on S. Valley Ave. when he struck the rear of vehicle #2 which was parked on the east side of S. Valley Ave.  He stated that he never saw vehicle #2 parked on the side of the road and he was not sure how the accident occurred.  Driver #1 stated he just remembers hitting the vehicle and spinning around to face the opposite direction of which he was traveling.

The owner of vehicle #2 advised that she did not observe the accident.  She indicated she parked her vehicle and shortly after heard the crash while she was inside of a residence.

Driver #1 claimed no injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.

Vehicle #1 was towed from the scene by South Side Auto Body and vehicle #2 was towed from the scene by Joe's Bug Repair.

Driver #1 was issued a summons (0614-VC-004293) for Careless Driving (39:4-97).

Luz Colon, owner of vehicle #2 was issued a summons (0614-VC-004294) for Improper Parking (39:4-138G).

Driver #1: Eulalia Pascual-Andres 27 of Bridgeton NJ

Driver #2: Eric McCloud 21 of Newfield NJ

Driver # 1 advised she was exiting from the driveway of 20 West Park Avenue in an attempt to make a left turn.  Driver # 1 told me westbound traffic on Park Avenue was stopped, and enough space was left between two vehicles for her to travel, so she began to execute her turn.  Driver # 1 then said she failed to notice vehicle # 2 approach eastbound on West Park Avenue, causing the two vehicles to collide. 

Driver # 2 said he was eastbound on West Park Avenue when he observed vehicle # 1 suddenly emerge from between stopped traffic, in front of his vehicle.  Driver # 2 said he was unable to avoid vehicle # 2, causing both vehicles to collide.  Driver # 2 complained of pain from the crash.  Vineland EMS responded to the scene and transported this driver to Inspira Hospital, 1505 West Sherman Avenue, for treatment. 

Investigation revealed that Driver # 1 improper exit of driveway and failure to yield right of way to vehicle # 2 was the cause of this crash.  Driver # 1 was issued the following summonses.

     1.  0614 VC 004174 - improper exit of driveway (39:4-66b)
     2.  0614 VC 004175 - unlicensed driver (39:3-10a)
     3.  0614 VC 004176 - suspended driver (39:3-40)

The owner of vehicle # 1 was issued a summons for allowing Driver # 1 to operate her vehicle without a valid New Jersey's license.  It was confirmed by family members at the scene that vehicle # 1's owner had knowledge of Driver # 1 being unlicensed. 

Driver # 2 failed to produce a valid insurance card for the rental vehicle he was operating.  I contacted Enterprise Car Rental Agency (phone # 301.490.2796), and was advised that when vehicle # 2 was rented, no insurance was taken on said vehicle.  Driver # 2 was issued summons # 0614 VC 004178 for uninsured motor vehicle (39:6b-2).

Driver #1: David Burt 58 of Millville NJ

Driver #2: Andrew Maldonado 17 of Landisville NJ

Driver #1 stated he was traveling southbound on South Delsea Drive, passing West Butler Avenue. While traveling southbound the vehicle next to him in western lane attempt to make a left turn before he was safe to do, striking his vehicle.

Driver #2 stated he was traveling southbound on South Delsea Drive. Driver #2 wanted to make a left turn on to West Butler Avenue. When he began to he did not realize there was a vehicle in eastern lane.

Investigation at the scene revealed point of impact to be approximately 20 feet south of southern curb edge of West Butler Avenue and approximately 15 feet east of the western curb edge of South Delsea Drive. Point of impact was determined by information obtained at the scene

Vehicle #1 sustained damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Allanardos Tow Service.

Driver #1 had no complaints of pain and/or injury

Vehicle #2 sustained damage to the front driver side of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Courthouse Towing.

Driver #2 was issued a summons for Improper Lane Change.

Driver #2 had a complaint of pain to his neck and head. He was transported to IHN by Vineland EMS.

Driver #1: Helen Gonzalez 55 of the 100 block of Axtell Ave.

Driver #1 (Green Cab) stated that she was traveling North bound on S Seventh St when she attempted to merge to the shoulder of the roadway to pick-up a passenger. During this time, Driver #1 stated that she sideswiped a vehicle (Vehicle #2) which was parked alongside the curb edge of S Seventh St. Driver #1's vehicle sustained minor damage to the front right passenger side bumper. Driver #1 claimed no injuries and refused medical attention.

At this location, I was able to locate the owner for Vehicle #2 and she was advised of the incident. Vehicle #2 sustained minor damage to the front driver side bumper. No Tows were needed on scene.

No summonses were issued at the scene.

Driver #2: Amanda Bahamonde 19 of the 500 block of S. Main Road

Driver #1 stated at the scene he was traveling East on Park Ave in the outside lane approaching the 4th St intersection when vehicle #2 failed to stop at the stop sign and pulled out in front of him and caused a crash. Driver #1 said he did not have his right turn signal activated. Driver #1 complained of pain and was transported to Inspira Medical Center by Vineland EMS.

Driver #2 stated at the scene she was traveling North on 4th St and was stopped at the Park Ave intersection which is controlled by a stop sign. Driver #2 said she observed the road was clear and saw vehicle #1 was traveling East on Park Ave and had its right turn signal on. Driver #2 said this led her to believe that vehicle #1 was going to make a right turn on 4th St, so driver #1 pulled into the intersection and vehicle #1 crashed into her vehicle. 

According to driver #2, vehicle #1 had already began making a right turn on 4th St and then suddenly decided to continue traveling East on Park Ave and crashed into her vehicle. Driver #2 and the passenger in vehicle #2 complained of pain and the passenger had bleeding from her mouth. They were both transported to Inspira Medical Center by Vineland EMS.

Vehicle #1 had the right of way and vehicle #2 had a stop sign.

Driver #2 was cited for disregarding a stop sign.

Driver #1: Miguel Santos-Alvarez 41 of the 1900 block of N. East Ave.

Driver #2: Eric Bogan 42 of Millville NJ

Upon my arrival I spoke to driver 1 who was sitting on the curb with blood coming from a laceration on his forehead. Vineland EMS was contacted and shortly responded afterwards to treat driver 1's injuries. I asked driver 1 what happened he replied "I'm drunk" and did not understand the rest of the questions I asked. I then driver 1's wife, who spoke English, to translate what he was saying.  Driver 1 stated he does not remember what happened or where exactly he came from. Diver 1 did advise after getting to his house and stopping the occupants from the vehicle he hit got out and assaulted him causing the laceration to his head, see incident report 74756-15.

The vehicle of driver 1 was released to the custody of the registered owner. Driver 1 was taken to Inspira Health Network for further treatment and was arrested for driving while intoxicated by Ofc Runkle.

While speaking to driver 2 he advised while he was driving southbound on North East Ave he was approaching Rainbow Lane when he noticed vehicle 1 driving in his lane. Driver 2 advised he was trying to move over into the oncoming lane to avoid being hit since there was no room in his lane. Driver 2 stated once he got his vehicle into the other lane driver 1 then turned his vehicle back into the northbound lane causing his vehicle to strike the rear passenger side of the vehicle. Vehicle 2 had moderate damage to the rear passenger side of the vehicle and was towed by Giancola towing. The driver had complaint of pain to his neck and leg, the passenger had complaint of pain to his neck and the rear passenger had complaint of pain to his back. All occupants were taken to Inspira Helath Network for further treatment.

Driver 1 was issued a summons for leaving the scene of an accident (0614VC007915) and a summons for failure to maintain lane (0614VC007916) with a court date of 1-13-2016.  Driver 1 was issued other summonses by Ofc Runkle.

Driver #1: Laine Orabona 28 of the 3000 block of Menantico Road

Driver # 1 stated she was north on Lincoln Avenue behind Vehicle "X" near Sheridan Avenue.  She stated she thought Vehicle "X" was going to turn left so she began to pass it on the right side, to the right of the fog line.  She stated as she was doing this Vehicle "X" then turned right onto Sheridan Avenue and she braked and took evasive action to avoid crashing into Vehicle "X".  She stated her vehicle then struck a wooden utility pole, VE-2659, causing minimal damage.  There was no contact between the two vehicles.  Driver # 1 was issued summons # 0614-VC-9021 for Careless Driving, 39:4-97, with a court date before the Vineland Municipal Court.

Joe's Bug Repair responded and removed the vehicle revealing an approximate 4'x3" yellow South Jersey Gas pipe that had been protruding from the ground on the south east corner of the intersection.  The pipe was knocked down and flat on the ground with obvious damage.  South Jersey Gas as well as Vineland Electric were both notified by police dispatch of the damage to their property.

Driver #1: Evelyn Schweibinz 66 of the 2000 block of Driftwood Lane

Driver stated she was traveling north on Panther Road passing the intersection of Asher Road.  Driver said while driving, a deer ran from the east wooded area of Panther Road into her lane of travel.  The driver said she was unable swerve and struck the deer with her vehicle.

 

At the scene, the driver advised she was not injured as a result of the collision.  While checking the vehicle I located fresh deer fur on the passenger front bumper.  The deer was located on the east shoulder of the roadway and was deceased resulting from the collision.

 

No summonses were issued for the collision and the Cumberland County Road Department was contacted and advised of the deceased deer.

Driver 1 stated he was travelling east on W Landis Ave approaching the intersection in front of  1294 W Landis Ave. Driver 1 stated he began to turn left into 1294 W Landis Ave. Driver 1 stated that he thought the way was clear and did not see Driver 2. Driver 1 made contact with Driver 2 in the west bound lane. After making contact, Driver 1 spun around and was now facing west bound where he came to a rest. Driver 1 sustained major damage to the front end as well as the under carriage of his vehicle.

Driver 1 nor any of the passengers of that vehicle claimed any injuries at the scene. Driver 1's vehicle was towed from the scene by Southside Towing.

Driver 2 stated she was travelling west on W Landis Ave when she approached the intersection of 1294 W Landis Ave. Driver 2 stated she had the green light and was proceeding through the light. Driver 2 stated she was struck on the driver side front of her vehicle by Driver 1. Driver 2 stated she never saw Driver 2 and was unable to attempt to avoid the collision.

Driver 2 sustained major damage to the front driver side and the vehicle was towed from the scene by Giancola Towing.

Driver 1 was issued the following citation for Failure to Yield.

Driver #1 stated he approached the intersection of N Delsea Dr on W Wheat Rd.  Driver #1 stated he saw vehicle #2 and passed it on the right side to make a right turn onto N Delsea Dr.  Driver #1 stated he didn't see vehicle #2 have a right turn signal on when he passed the vehicle on the right.

Driver #2 stated she was stopped on W Wheat Rd at the light on N Delsea Dr to make a right turn.  Driver #2 stated she had her right turn signal on and when traffic cleared, proceeded to make her right turn at which point her passenger side struck vehicle #1 front driver's side.

There were no complaints of pain at the scene.

Vehicle #1 sustained minor damage to the driver's side front bumper area.  Vehicle #2 sustained minor passenger side damage.  Both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Both drivers were advised of their complaint options with VMC.

Driver #2: Matthew Rudd 33 of the 2000 block of Adler Lane

Driver #1 stated he was traveling south on South Spring Road from Dante Avenue when he slowed down to make a left turn into the driveway of 1861 South Spring Road.  Driver #1 said he activated his left turn signal and slowed to a stop while waiting for northbound traffic to clear.  Driver #1 said his vehicle was then struck from behind by vehicle #2.

 

Driver #2 stated he was traveling south on South Spring road, from Dante Avenue when he glanced to his left at a residence.  Driver #2 said when he looked forward he saw vehicle #1 stopped when he was unable to react and struck the rear of vehicle #1.

 

No injuries were reported at the scene by either drivers or the occupant of vehicle #1.

 

Driver #2 was issued a careless driving summons with a court date to appear for January 13th 2016 at 9:00am.  A subpoena was issued to driver #1. 

 

No witnesses to the collision were located.

Driver 1 stated he was exiting Walmart from Walmart Drive onto W Landis Ave.  Driver 1 stated he had a green light and entered the intersection.  Driver 1 stated when he entered the intersection his vehicle was struck by vehicle 2.  Driver 2 stated she was traveling west on W Landis Ave approaching the area of Walmart Dr.  Driver 1 stated she observed vehicle 2 try to beat their red light and enter the intersection.  Driver 2 stated her vehicle was then struck by vehicle 1.  Both parties were advised of their complaint option at the Vineland Municipal Court.

Driver 2 had a complaint of pain to her chest from the seat belt.  There were no other injuries.

Damage to both vehicles was minor.

There were no summons issued.

Driver #2: Luke Kollock 25 of the 600 block of S. Orchard Road

Driver # 1 advised me was stopped in traffic behind vehicle # 2 on the south bound lane of South Delsea Drive, at the intersection of South Delsea Drive and West Walnut Road, for a red traffic light controlling his lane of travel.  Driver # 1 then said when the traffic light turned from red to green, he anticipated vehicle # 2 to start moving and depressed the accelerator, causing his vehicle to collide into the rear or vehicle # 2.

Driver # 2 said he was stopped in traffic for a red traffic light with his left turn signal activated, in front of vehicle # 1.  When the traffic light turned green, his vehicle did not move its location because of oncoming traffic.  He then said it was while stopped his vehicle was struck in the rear by vehicle # 1.  Driver # 2 complained of pain in the neck from the crash.  Vineland EMS was contacted and responded to the scene.  Driver # 2 refused medical care, signing a document that stated the same.  This document was retained by Vineland EMS.

Investigation revealed that Driver # 1 actions was the cause of this crash.  Driver # 1 was issued a summons # 0614 VC 009364 for careless driving (39:4-97).  Driver # 2 was issued a subpoena to appear in court for the violation issued against Driver # 1.

On this date I was dispatched to west Landis Avenue and Route 55 in regards to a (3) vehicle collision. I arrived to the scene and spoke with Trooper Jack who stated he stopped at the location after seeing the vehicle with their hazards on. I advised the Trooper this collision was in Vineland s jurisdiction and i was going to be taking over the investigation.

I asked all drivers if there were any injuries and all stated "no". I the spoke with Driver #1. Driver # 1 stated she was driving east on W Landis going over the 55 overpass when suddenly she noticed a vehicle stopped in her lane of travel. Driver #1 stated she was able to apply her brakes and make a sudden stop to avoid the collision. Driver # 1 stated there was vehicles behind her and she was then struck from behind by Vehicle # 2. Driver # 1 and her passenger both stated they were fine and again refused medical attention. 

Driver # 1 stated after the collision she got out of her vehicle to check on the vehicle stopped in front of her. Driver # 1 stated she observed not one but two vehicles. She described the vehicle directly in front of her as a white in color sedan and what looked like a mini-van stopped in front of that vehicle. Driver # 1 stated both driver's to both vehicles were Hispanic females who spoke only Spanish. Driver # 1 stated she was unable to communicate with the females and walked back to her vehicle to call Police. While waiting for Police both vehicle took off from the scene. Driver #1 stated the vehicle in front of her had a Tennessee tag but she was unable to get the tag number. Vehicle # 1 sustained damage to the rear bumper that consists of broken bumper and transfer paint.
 
After getting a statement from Driver # 1,I spoke with Driver #2. Driver # 2 stated he was driving east on Landis Avenue when suddenly Vehicle # 1 stopped. Driver # 2 stated he was unable to move to avoid the collision. After he struck Vehicle #1, his vehicle was then struck by Vehicle #3. Driver # 2 verified there was a vehicle in front of Driver # 1 which was stopped. Driver # 2 stated the vehicle took off prior to Police arrival. Driver # 2 stated he was fine and refused medical attention. Vehicle # 2 sustained damage to the front bumper which consists of bumper pushed in and the rear bumper/tailgate of the vehicle due. 

Driver #3 stated he was driving east on W Landis Avenue when suddenly Vehicle # 2 stops in front of him. Driver # 3 stated he was unable to avoid the collision. Driver # 3 stated he was fine and refused medical attention. Vehicle # 3 sustained damage to the front end. It was disabled and was towed by Rulyn's Tow at the Drivers request. 

No summons were issued at this time. At the overpass of route 55 (W Landis Avenue) there are no lights and visibility is poor. A search of the area was conducted with assistance of State Police; however no vehicles were located.
