NEWS RELEASE: COLLISIONS

Date: 10/26/2015

Time: 3:31 PM

Location: Landis Ave. and Eighth Street

Case#: 62368-2015

Officer: Day

Driver #1: Marisol Gonzalez-Garcia 45 of the 300 block of S. Seventh Street

Driver #2: Eduardo Archeval 49 of the 500 block of S. East Ave.

Driver#1 stated at headquarters she was stopped on Landis Avenue facing west at the intersection of Eighth Street waiting for the traffic signal to turn green.  Driver# 1 said vehicle# 1 was stopped at the same traffic signal next to her facing the same direction, on her driver side.  Driver# 1 said once the signal turned green, vehicle# 2 turned left onto Eighth Street and the rear of vehicle# 2 struck her driver side rear quarter panel and dragged all the way to the front driver side quarter panel.  Driver# 1 said vehicle# 2 pulled onto Eighth Street and the male driver exited the vehicle to walk into a store.  Driver# 1 said she confronted driver# 2 about the crash stating "you just hit my car".  Driver# 1 said driver# 2 responded by saying "it was your fault".  Driver# 1 said driver# 2 then walked into a store on Landis Avenue and she thought he was calling the police.

Furthermore, driver# 1 said about 5 minutes later, she began taking pictures of the damage to vehicle# 2 when she walked to the store where driver #2 walked in.  Driver# 1 said she ran into driver# 2 in the doorway to a pharmacy when she said driver# 2 again blamed her for the crash.  Driver# 1 said driver# 2 then entered his vehicle and left the area in Elmer Street.  Driver# 1 advised she had the registration to the accused vehicle was VZS42F.  She showed me a picture of the accused vehicle and she described the male driver as Hispanic with a white scruffy beard and about 5 feet 10 inches tall.  I advised river# 1 if I retrieved further information regarding the crash I would be in contact with her.

Next, I had the registration to vehicle# 2 ran by dispatch and they advised the registered owner was a female residing at 512 South East Avenue.  Officer Demarchi and I responded to 512 South East Avenue to speak with the registered owner, Damaris Flores.  Upon our arrival, I spoke with a male subject who matched the description of driver# 2 given by driver# 1.  The male identified himself as Eduardo Archeval and he advised he was in fact involved in a crash at Eighth Street and Landis Avenue.

Driver# 2 stated he was stopped at the intersection of East Landis Avenue and Eighth Street, facing westbound on Landis Avenue.  Driver# 2 said once the light turned green, he inched forward, waiting for a school bus to pass, and vehicle# 1 struck his vehicle on the passenger side.  Driver# 2 said he pulled his vehicle off to the side of Eighth Street and when he exited the vehicle, driver# 1 was there and he told her he had to go inside the pharmacy.  Driver# 2 said he walked out a few minutes later to find driver# 1 waiting for him and he told her it was her fault and he left the area.

I asked driver# 2 why he did not call the police if the crash was driver# 1's fault and he said "I don't have a license sir".  I asked driver# 2 if he intended on calling the police and he said he did and he knows it was wrong to leave the crash and not call.  I walked outside to the back yard where I observed vehicle# 2 parked.  Vehicle# 2 sustained apparent minor damage to the passenger side rear bumper and quarter panel.  The following summonses were issued to driver# 2 as a result of the crash.

1)  0614-VC006575, unlicensed driver
2)  0614-VC006576, Leaving the scene with no injuries

As a result of the crash, no injuries were reported and neither vehicle needed to be towed from the roadway.  After speaking with driver# 2, it appears his version of the crash is consistent with the damage to both vehicles.  The version of the crash given by driver# 1 does not seem possible.  A check of the camera system on Landis Avenue was negative as the system in that area was not functioning at the time of the crash.  An attempt to speak with driver# 1 after I gained further information was negative and I left a message for her to contact me back as soon as possible.
