Today Police Commissioner Charles Gardner announced the arrest and indictment of suspect Ahkim R Blount, age 36, in connection with three incidents that occurred in Yonkers in September of 2015.  Commissioner Gardner was joined by Mayor Mike Spano, City Council President Liam McLaughlin, Councilman Mike Breen and numerous members of both our patrol and Detective divisions.  The following is a timeline of events:

  • On 09-11-15 at approximately 9:53 p.m., a 57 year old female Yonkers resident was sexually assaulted and robbed in the area of 106 Belmont Avenue.
  • On 09-13-15 at approximately 8:21 p.m., a 37 year old female Yonkers resident was the victim of a robbery in the area of 801 Bronx River Road.
  • On 09-23-15 at approximately 7:30 p.m., a 22 year old female was the victim of a robbery at 7000 Mall Walk (Cross County Center).

2nd Precinct Officers who responded to the 09-23-15 robbery scene quickly interviewed the victim and were able to provide valuable suspect information to responding Officers.  In this incident, the victim’s cell phone was taken by the suspect.  The 2nd Precinct personnel at the scene deployed the use of a phone tracking application and developed information that the suspect was possibly in the area of Getty Square.  This application activates a beeping light and sound from the tracked phone.  4th Precinct Officers quickly responded to the area of Getty Square and began to search for a possible suspect.  They subsequently observed suspect Blount standing at a bus stop.  The suspect was found to be in possession of the victim’s cell phone and he was taken into custody without incident.

Members of the Detective Division began a thorough investigation into this incident with the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.  Investigators began to determine if this suspect was involved in other crimes, particularly the incidents at 106 Belmont Avenue and 801 Bronx River Road.  Detectives subsequently developed information to link this suspect to both of these crimes in addition to the robbery at 7000 Mall Walk.

Police Commissioner Charles Gardner commented “This arrest and investigation is a direct result of a timely response to the scene and excellent coordination of patrol personnel and our Detectives.  A dangerous predator was removed from our streets because of their actions.”   The suspect is currently at the Westchester County Jail and this case is active in Westchester County Court.  He was indicted for numerous charges including Rape 1st degree and Robbery 1st degree in relation to these crimes. The suspect is a resident of 25 Operations Drive, in Valhalla, N.Y.

NO PHOTOGRAPH OF THIS SUSPECT IS BEING RELEASED AT THIS TIME.
