DETAILS:

On Sunday October 4th, 2015 an officer from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety was contacted by a citizen with concern over behavior by the arrestee. The male juvenile reportedly had obsessions with firearms, law enforcement personnel, law enforcement equipment including; marked and unmarked police vehicles and SWAT vehicles. In addition to the mentioned obsessions, the juvenile was reportedly in possession of at least four firearms and an extensive amount of ammunition, and ballistic body armor.

Information obtained involved threats against non-specific members of the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, and the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety. Based on this information, an investigation was started and assigned to the detective division of the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety. During the course of the investigation, it was revealed a criminal episode involving the juvenile had occurred at a residence located in the 6000 block of Monument Dr. between September 28th and September 30th, 2015. The alleged criminal episode involved the juvenile attempting to confront who he perceived to be a police officer who had pulled into the trailer park. Prior to confronting the officer, the juvenile retrieved body armor and a handgun from his residence. There was no confrontation with the person the juvenile believed to be an officer however, it is believed there was intent to force an armed encounter with the officer.

Notifications of the incident were provided to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Oregon State Police. Further information related to statements allegedly made by the juvenile led detectives to partner with the administration of North Valley High School, where the juvenile was enrolled as a student. On Tuesday, October 6 at approximately 0800 hours, the juvenile was taken into custody without incident. Detectives from GPDPS then served a search warrant at the juvenile’s residence. Three firearms, ammunition, and a large amount of kevlar body armor were seized during the service of the search warrant.

The involved juvenile was lodged within the jurisdiction of the juvenile department on listed charges. Anyone with information is urged to contact the detective division of the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety.
