Atlantic City Police Violent Crime Unit arrest seven people, one Atlantic City male charged for a recent shooting
The Atlantic City Police Department Violent Crime Unit, under the supervision of Lt. Robert Campbell, are investigating two recent shootings. One Atlantic City male has been charged and another suspect remains at large.
On Sunday, August 30, 2015, at approximately 10:41 a.m., members of the Atlantic City Police Department responded to the 600 block of Green Street following a ShotSpotter Alert and several 911 calls reporting gunshots in that area. No crime scene or victims were located at the time.
Soon after, at approximately 12:20 p.m., 24 year-old Luke Darnell of Atlantic City was dropped off at the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center – City Campus, with gunshot wounds to his left leg. Darnell’s injuries were considered non-life threatening and later released by the hospital.
A subsequent investigation revealed Darnell’s injuries were related to the earlier shooting. The investigation is currently ongoing and there is no suspect information at this time. The Atlantic City Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is conducting the investigation, assigned to Detective Joseph Iacovone. On Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at approximately 7:21 p.m., members of the Atlantic City Police Department responded to the area of 1500 Westminster Place, Stanley Holmes Village, following a ShotSpotter Alert and several 911 calls reporting gunshots in that area. A crime scene was located and spent shell casings were recovered.
Soon after, 24 year-old Seleem Reynolds of Atlantic City was dropped off at the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center – City Campus with a gunshot wound to his lower leg. The victim’s injury was considered non-life threatening. He was admitted overnight for observation.
An investigation was conducted by the Atlantic City Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit and thanks to the department’s efforts to work tirelessly with the Community of the Stanley Holmes Village; an arrest warrant was issued for Tajideen Austin, 21, of Atlantic City for the shooting of Reynolds.
A Search Warrant was executed at Austin’s residence, by members of the Atlantic City Police Department SWAT Team and members of Violent Crimes Unit. As a result of the search warrant, 7 people were arrested, including Austin. Evidence and narcotics were also recovered from the residence, including 185 bags of heroin.
Arrested:
Tajideen Austin, 21, of Atlantic City Charges (from the shooting): Aggravated Assault; Conspiracy; Unlawful possession of a weapon; Possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Bail Amount: $150,000, full cash, set by the Honorable Billie Moore (Atlantic City Municipal Court). Charges(from the search warrant): Possession of CDS (heroin); Possession with Intent to distribute.
Taquan Callaway, 19, of Atlantic City Charges(from the search warrant): Possession of CDS (heroin); Possession with Intent to distribute. Released on a Summons.
Khadr Ardis, 20, of Pleasantville Charges: Possession of CDS (heroin); Possession with Intent to distribute. Released on a Summons.
Mariah Coley, 23, of Atlantic City Charges: Possession of CDS (heroin); Possession with Intent to distribute. Released on a Summons.
Jabril Mason, 22, of Atlantic City Charges: Possession of CDS (heroin); Possession with Intent to distribute. Released on a Summons.
Mykehl Austin, 24, of Atlantic City Charges: Possession of CDS (heroin); Possession of CDS (MDMA); Possession with Intent to distribute. Released on a Summons.
Terrance Barley, 28, of Atlantic City Charges: Possession of CDS (heroin); Possession of CDS (MDMA); Possession with Intent to distribute. Released on a Summons.
The Atlantic City Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is conducting the investigation, assigned to Detective Joseph Procopio.
